I've done a bit of remote camping in the San Berdoo Natl. Forest. You must obtain a Wilderness Permit from the forest rangers. U cant camp within 200 ft. of any water. 1 mile from Deep Creek, which is a 'protected stream'. U have to bring all ur water. Some remote camps may have 'non-potable water'. Gotta dig a deep hole for waste(fun!). No campfires or BBQs, only propane, unless u get valid fire permit. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Its a lot of extra work but worth it.

Sounds like something I shouldn't do alone first time... When you going again?

May be going the week of Aug. 12th. Won't be remote camping though. I'll be staying at either Hanna Flat or GreenValleyLake campgrounds. Both provide easy access to some great trails. You are more than welcome to come along if u like. These are two of the nicest, highest elevation cmpgrd in the area. Crab Flats is also a possibility.

I just got back from that area. As he said, it is allot of work but might be worth it. Deep Creek is "Deep Puddle" right now. I did a 2mile hike to get to one area and because of the rain this year it was not worth it. If I had Paul to take me the correct way instead of going the back hard way I would have camped at Crab Flats.
