Citizens for Self-Governance (CSG) recently launched the Convention of States (COS) Project with the expressed purpose of urging and empowering state legislators to call a Convention of States. Under the COS Project plan, this convention would be called “for the purpose of limiting the power and jurisdiction
of the federal government.” Only amendments that fall under this category would be germane and up for debate

I believe a Convention of States is our last chance to halt the runaway power of the federal government and restore the Founder’s vision. This will be the most important project of this generation, and I hope you’ll consider getting involved!

The way I understand article V, it's not a separate entity proposing amendments in a different setting or organization. It's the same elected cronies doing the same things they do now, in the same places. They can already propose amendments - they just haven't.

I don't think you're going to ever see congress and the senate deciding to meet in a second forum in order to change the laws that they, themselves, created in the first one. As duplicitous and redundant as the federal government can be at times, that'd be the pinnacle of redundancy, in my opinion. What do people who are unhappy with the results of this second forum do? Call for a third one?

If our elected officials are not proposing enough amendments to the public's satisfaction, I think the solution will be to vote for people who will.

The problem with a central federal government is that they DO NOT represent the views of the people anymore.

A demagogue in DC like Obama who has zero world experience has taken it upon himself to dictate laws in cities and states so far removed from his views and values they might as well be in different countries--like he's forcing gay marriage on conservative states, closing coal plants because of his half-assed environmental policy. The same goes for Congress, where every state has two Senators and can force their views on parts of the country they don't have any stake in/understand.

The Federal government should protect us from foreign threats (including the southern border), that's it. America should have more power in regional government. We're not 13 colonies in close proximity to each other. I don't want Delaware to have two Senators and dictate how I go about my day in Colorado, or how California uses their huge population to steal resources, water, and dictate their idiotic environmental policy on the rest of the country. Our dumbass governor and sentator are pushing policy that is falling in lock-step with Obama, even though it's to the detriment of freedoms and interests of our own state.

America can't and shouldn't be governed centrally anymore. It's rapidly destroying this country with "one size fits all policy" written by people who don't venture far from the left coasts.

Well, I'd agree that our elected officials don't represent the views of the people - they care about getting re-elected, and that's about it. But no government will never represent the views of everyone. People disagree, and apparently, there are enough people who support our president to get him elected twice, just as - at the time - there were enough people who supported Reagan, Bush 1 and 2, and Clinton.

The scenario of each state governing as they see fit and the fed only worrying about national security would be great if we didn't have states that HAD to be told to support basic protections like equal employment opportunity, clean air and water, natural resource protection, etc. There's too much that many states don't do under their own laws, as it is.

I can see, in your scenario, many cases where a given state, with no federal oversight, decides that things like accommodating Americans with disabilities or enforcing rules against sexual harassment are too expensive, too petty, or not a big enough deal.

You're obviously conservative, and that's fine. But think about what the country would be like right now if we didn't have the opinions of people from the "left coasts" to help in making and passing laws. Minorities would probably still be second-class citizens in much of the country, women would still be barefoot and pregnant, and we'd be forcing one religion down everyone's throats. We'd essentially be Saudi Arabia.

Our system may not be perfection, but accommodating views from ALL sides has been shown to work for a couple hundred years, regardless who happens to be in office and what one person or the next thinks of him at the time.

At one point we'll have to decide if we'll have to carry half of a nation who doesn't want to work, but feels "entitled" to things like computers, cars, luxury apartments, and cable TV, also pot here in Colorayduh.

Colorado welfare EBT cards are being used in ATM's in Hawaii, Vegas, and the Virgin Islands (as if being used in ATMs outside of pot shops wasn't bad enough).
