Ashtray suspension upgrade for the annoyed.

Got sick of my ashtray being an ash-hole. I keep mine loaded with change, screws and keys, slides out by just looking at it, if I hit some heavy bumps or holes it has even flies out throwing ish all over the floor.
Checked some posts mods, some have used a piece of cardboard as friction, magnets, giving the spring extra turns, bending the frame, or just leaving it open.
I did the frame bend, that holds the ashtray in nicely, slides in and out with tension so stays where you want.
Pull ashtray out, look up there are 2 screws that hold in the slide frame. Get a stubby and/or right angle screwdriver to pull the screws out. Pop out light in socket. Give the 90 degree frame a bend inwards on both sides enough to give ashtray some friction. Don't bend to far to break the plastic hook clips. Pop it back In and you are done. Takes just a few minutes.

Thanks for the fix suggestion. My Tacoma ashtray has always been a pain and I have it wedged at the moment. A BB is like an SS but with different letters

I did the same thing years ago. I keep change in mine too and it was always sliding out when I would drive down wasdhboard roads. I lined it with a piece of soft leather also to keep the coin jingling noise to a minimum also.

I think it's shorthand for baby; he keeps his baby in there.
I can't imagine having a bunch of change in there, and only keep a light piece of electronic and a chap-stick in there. Mine stays closed just fine after 250k miles. Don't overload it and there won't be anything to fix [emoji848][emoji6]
There are change slots in your center console- at least if you have a '99+(not sure about '96-98.

Can’t imagine keeping change in that. I know a guy who puts his change in the door inside the grab handle. Actually not the worst location.

My ashtray? I put every single gas receipt in there.

Not that I think it'd keep change securely, plus I refuse to carry change out principle (I think it is an absurd concept), but just wondering .

The picture isn't showing up for me, but I know what you're talking about. Such a stupid idea, IMO. Our '02 IS300 and our '08 IS250 both had those stupid dust collectors in them.

It's easy to find the '05-15 shaped coin holders, but the '99-05 era shaped blanks are much harder to find. The only shape that I can see that looks proper for our knock outs is from a mk3 MR2-

This is the newer shape- note the more rounded corners-

If you're super fancy, you can spoil yourself with an OEM Toyota pen holder!

There are change slots in your center console- at least if you have a '99+(not sure about '96-98.

Mine would slide out even empty, I guess a common problem on a lot of these......perhaps putting change in it wears the slide rails. But tweak the frame and its all tight again.

My ashtray would slide out when driving on rough roads and I never put anything in it, absolutely no weight. Mine doesn’t stay closed after 254000 miles.

Fixed it today with this quick solution.
