Assist handle missing??

I think I'm missing an assist handle above my drivers side door on an 04 Sport. There is a place for them but it just has covers over it. I called the dealer but they said it comes like that.

Should there be one there or do I have to add it myself?

I also am missing it, and wish I had it. If anyone has info. on part numbers and ordering it, let me know - I want to add it.

... either that or I'll steal it from the passenger side, let my wife jump up instead.

You install it yourself (see my signature).

It's the same kind of handle as on the passenger side. Installation takes just a minute or two.

Part numbers (SR5 gray interior color):

74603-60010-B0 Grip subassembly

Price I paid was $17.37 plus shipping.

WTF, My '03 SR5 came with one, and as far as I know it wasn't an option. Is this another case of standard features vanishing in the name of progress?

My '03 Limited doesn't have one - just the one an the "A" pillar. I feel cheated!

I went back thru all my original documentation, and can't find any reference to the drivers side assist handle anywhere. My SR5 was 'born' on 11/01/02, and, if one can believe the dealer, was
among the first V6s to be delivered in upstate NY. It came with an option package that the dealer refered to as the Northeast package. He said it was a 'specific' options package only found in the Northeast: . Maybe they found an extra handle laying around on the floor and installed it for the hell of it??? I don't know, but I got it , and I use it. Not as spry as I used to be

ALL 4Runners are like that as the foreign counterparts use the same body parts and that is their passenger side, so the holes and hardware are already there.

Go to the dealership, order a passenger side "oh heck" handle from your year model and color interior, the one above the door, not the one on the molding by the windshield as it is a bit longer, and screw it onto the other side. Any IDIOT parts person can find this for you and will know exactly what it is if you tell them the "oh heck" or "oh $#&$^#" handle. Cost me $15 from the dealer. I don't use it for "oh heck" as I prefer to keep both hands on the steering wheel, but I really need it these days to pull myself up into my rig without breaking something, not on the rig, but on me...oh my aching knees.

Simple fix.
