I'm planning on a few major things:
-4wd conversion (W/ FJ transfer case)
-TRD supercharger w/ 7th injector from URD
-TRD CAI
-TRD exhaust
-major suspension upgrade
-MAYBE E85 conversion ;)

Don't give me the whole "not worth it" deal, as quite frankly, I don't care. I just want to know if this is all possible with pretty amateur-medial mechanical inclination.

Just curious, why not trade your 4runner in for a 4wd then mod that one? Should be significantly easier and probably cheaper

I'm guessing that this will turn out to be quite challenging, but you'll have to define "pretty amateur-medial"... what types of vehicle projects have you done? One thing that I've learned about bigger vehicle projects/conversions over the years is that you take your best swag at the budget and then double it!

The good thing is that if you have the time, patience, and money, you'll learn a ton!

By the way, there have been a couple of guys who have converted from 2WD to 4WD... just can't remember who right now.

Car loans... Ew. But the 4WD conversion should be roughly the same if not a little bit less than buying the new truck, plus I get to keep my baby. The 4WD conversion shouldn't be too difficult, as both TOY2G and MysticZ got theirs' done in a day or two. Most of the third gens to do that were, too.

Looks, the internal intercooler, And the ability to mount an intake very easily. PLUS, I'll save a good $2000.

The learning is what I'm going for! I don't think much of this should be too hard, as most people have done these before, just not necessarily together. I have spoken to most of these guys on the projects, too. Whitebeauty on the supercharger/E85, MysticZ and TOY2G on the 4WD, suspension (It'd be a shorter list to list members of this forum who COULDN'T help me), exhaust/CAI I can pretty much do myself.

Find me a turbo that won't cost me $1000000 to install and we'll talk ;) Plus, the supercharger gives me power at the low end, useful for wheelin'.
 
Man if i was ready to SAS i'd be happy to sell you my IFS componants you'd just have to regear the rear axle to match the fron 4.56 gears I have installed. It would also come with an ARB front locker lol

when you get around to purchasing parts hit me up and see what I've got going on It may just work out that I can sell you my parts and drop in a straight axle.

one does not simply convert there truck to 4wd to wind up selling it...

besides not many people look to own a 2wd 4runner, and if they are looking for a 2wd 4runner they're not looking for a lifted one at that.

converting your truck to 4wd also reduces insurance premiums as in the insurance world "4wd trucks are safer in bad weather conditions"

there is nothing negative about converting a 2wd to 4wd if the one doing it desires the 4wd capabilities.
