Where are you getting that information from? Methanol is corrosive if the item is submerged and can be corrosive to meth delivery components, if set-up incorrectly. Therefore components that are in constant contact with the meth are susceptible to corrosion (pump, lines, nozzle), but there are kits set-up made with materials to prevent this. Once there meth is pumped in as a mist it's instantly burned, one of the main reason's it's used. If anything meth has been proven to reduce intake manifold build-up, therefore making the engine run cleaner. You won't get as much power from E-85 as meth.

all intercoolers are mounted in the front of the vehicle for best cooling purposes. water doesn't hurt it just like water doesn't hurt your radiator or air conditioning condenser.

I'm just saying, what if water were to go through the pipes?

E85 likes to absorb water as it's hygroscopic. If the vehicle's fuel system is not e85 compatible the seals and filters will be compromised. Toyota's are ahead of the game compared with other manufacturers but you still need to invest in fuel stuff that is e85 compatible. Take the fuel sock filter for example if you run a cotton based filter you run the risk of clogging that up not to mention all the crap your gonna pick up from the bottom of the tank that the e85 will pick up. You'll also need a e85 content analyzer. And MUCH bigger injectors than the trd 425's with a 7th. You will definitely surpass the duty cycle. E85 is cool and all but I would not trust considering that you can have a MAXIMUM of 80-85 percent ethanol and a minimum of 65-68 percent. So it is a very inconsistent fuel to use, hence the need for the analyzer.

I realize it attracts water, which is originally why I said E85 is a maybe. But thank you for the info on the variation on the ethanol contents, as now I'm definitely furthering from that idea.
 
Sounds like a fun project.

I don't understand starting with a 2WD then spending money converting it to 4WD. I know you said you don't want a car loan, but if you can't afford to trade up to a 4WD how are you going to afford all the other stuff (superchargers, engine bits, suspension etc.)?

Time is money too. Unless you have so much leftover you really just don't know what to do with it. In that case. Good on ya! :)

I got the 2WD from my mother really cheap, and loans of any kind are something I'd rather stay away from. However, I'm not looking to this in the span of a few months. This is my overall plan for my truck.

the only way that would happen is if your connections weren't sealed tight with clamps. Also typically in cold air intakes specially where you find them in cars without a box over the filter cones have smaller breather filters plumbed in line with the intake so if water were to enter the intake tubes the engine would not be able to suck the water in. any syphon effect caused by the water would be eliminated by the breather filter usually mounted closer to the throttle body or intake manifold
 
Except for vehicles like the Subaru WRX that have the intercooler mounted on top of the engine, beneath the functional hoodscoop.

there's always gotta be that one guy that corrects everyone right lol, yes the wrx is somewhat of an exception; however, all the aftermarket inner coolers for the wrx that are larger get moved and mounted up front behind the bumper In front of the AC condenser.




just to clear things up even more for the OP think of all the hot rods with big super chargers pushing a high rise intake out from under the hood. they drive in rain just as good as a sunny day even with a gaping mouth of an intake that does nothing to stop water from coming in.

you do have an allowable amount of water or moisture your engine can see without damage or negative effects. it burns off with the ignition of the fuel in the pistons. water becomes and issue when the cylinders or a cylinder becomes flooded with water creating a hydro locked engine.

Alright, so I should be fine with either s/c, but to prevent hydrolocking, snorkel all the way, am I right?

If your off-roading habits involve a lot of water crossings, deep mud, or water then yes a snorkel will certainly benefit.

For daily driving, rock crawling, and dry expedition trails a snorkel isn't necessary.

no, the TRD CAI still pulls air from the factory hole in the inner front passenger fender (on V8's anyway) not sure if the V6 air box is still behind the passenger head light or not. Anyway the safari snorkels just go through a hole you cut in the outer front passenger fender and mate up to the airbox in it's factory location. Then runs the snorkel down the fender toward the windsheild and turns up to get to the highest point to draw air.

put it this way... you will have more trouble with idler pulleys, tensioner pulleys, wheel bearings and case fluids going through mud and water than your intake will with or without a snorkel, with or without a super charger.

mud and water destroy mechanical parts. To each their own ofcourse, I've replaced my fair share of parts from mud bogging, it's five minutes of fun for 5 years of shit falling in your face while your working under the truck.

anyway I would focus on the 4wd setup, then move into the supercharger and intake modifications.

Ha Ha! I wasn't intending to "correct" anyone... just point out that there are different configurations and, mainly, to point out the fact that driving a WRX/STI in a rain storm means that water is pouring in through that functional hoodscoop, intercooler, and down the back of the engine.

I've never heard of anyone hydro-locking an engine by sucking rain through a massive intake, like aha points out, but I'll admit that I would be a little concerned... whether it be through a big, blower-type intake or something like velocity stacks. Puddle-pouncing and water crossings obviously present a lot more water all at once.

I just enjoying following threads like this and picking up new knowledge... and contributing where I can! :confused:
