Interrupted a catalytic converter attempted theft. Guy got away. Local muffler shop repaired/welded for $200.
Thinking about some sheet metal to make it harder to access. IMG_2429.jpg

Did this occur in Canada I assume? I've heard of crackheads doing this around Texas but didn't know it was so widespread. 4Runner cat theft seems to be popular with criminals right now. Word gets around I guess. Lot of platinum, etc in our cats. Whodathunk it.

I wonder what our cats are worth? I have two sitting on the floor of my garage and two coming out next Monday. Perhaps I should recycle them and get some money back.

Yes you're correct. In Canada and most likely a crackhead. It was a team of 2 that were camped out in a forest area. Both on 10 speed bikes. One was a lookout while the other went to work with a portable grinder and cutoff wheel. Sparks flying. Which caused numerous people to call police. So they must have been under the influence to pull something like that. The muffler shop guy said it's the shops who are buying these from the crackheads that are part of the problem as well.

Here is the setting where it happened. In hindsight I shouldn't have parked here. IMG_2425.jpg

Big around here

targeting tacomas and honda civics parked at BART stations. I cant help to think that by liftin your truck youre just making it easier for um to cut it out.

Couple of years ago I heard of a theft around here, they think they hopped a fence in a salvage and made off with over a dozen, but they thought it occurred at night. I'm not sure there is much you can do to keep from being a target of stupid criminals. Clearly they weren't that smart in the way they executed, and if they have a sawzall or grinder w/ cutoff wheel, a little sheet metal isn't gonna stop them.

They were after the spare tires a while back, cutting the cable on the tire carrier, getting the new cable and installing it ran around $800 dollars i read.

****ing crackheads. I feel like I would bash a skull in if I found someone doing that to my 4runner, but I guess I'd never know until it happened. Would more likely give the bum a $20 bill.

I love going to Vancouver, my daughter likes the scenic area. But we've all noticed an increase over the years of tweakers and street people, much like our Seattle. Yay!

And we love Seattle! Pike Place, Crab Pot, Tunnel Tours etc. Planning on driving there very soon.

25 years ago, a friend of mine Managed a Muffler Shop Chain & he owned $100,000 worth of Snap-On tools from his wrenching days - his Rottweiler named Brutus, spent the nights there, usually on a dog bed in his office.

One Monday morning he comes in before & 7:00 am, to open up early and get organized.
- he hears a boy screaming from the bay area...Help ME, Help ME, over & over
- his dog is under the 2 post lift, and there is a fair amount of blood on the floor
- a High School student (delinquent) is pleading for assistance / he climbed to the very top of the big lift
- the one leg of his blue jeans, had taken a K9 beating & the kids knee is tore up, until the kid climbed to safer higher ground, avoiding Brutus / handing dehydrated on top of a 12 ton lift...1.5 days without a drink
- kid said, you can call the cops on me, I attempted a break-in Saturday night
- manager put his Rottie in the office and gave the dehydrated kid a bottle of water

Now the manager doesn't want to get sued or have his dog impounded (for biting), so he talks to the kid:
- if you go back to HS and tell all your buds, this Muffler Shop is NOT an easy target, in town
- and tell them, you suffered a ton of pain & lucky to be alive / this B&E was not worth it
Kid agreed, and thanked the Manager for not calling the police, on him.
- word got out in the local schools, the muffler Shop was never broken in again

Crackheads in New Orleans got my brother. I sold him my 95 and they got it while we were parked on Carondelet St. And were having dinner at Mr. Johns steakhouse. That must have been the summer of 2010.

RIP that sweet 95!

I would almost consider investing in skid plates as a theft deterrent. Sure, they could always unbolt them, but time is key for these scumbags.

I agree; that's in the works actually. I'll post photos when it's completed
