Sunday bump. This guy from Craigslist, who just bought a 2000 Millennium Silver 4Runner with 87,000 miles, told me that he is going to try and buy it Tuesday. If one of you forum members (within driving distance) wants this hood now is the time to get it. You can pay by PayPal and make arrangements to pick it up another day - you do not have to pick it up today.

Sorry, I've been out of town with limited internet access. I would have called on Saturday, but they were closed. I should hear from them tomorrow sometime, and if I don't I'll call them in the later morning.

If someone with a Millennium Silver 4Runner wants to save a little money there is a silver Sport Hood for sale in El Paso, Texas for $300. It is in rough shape and probably needs at least a repaint.
As far as I know there are about 30 Sport Hoods for sale in the country. These are just the ones that are advertised - I'm sure there are others. If you really want an OEM Sport Hood and see one in your area I would suggest getting it while you can.

Yes, I did get the hood, sorta. The deal isn't fully finished yet, but it's mine. I called on Monday and asked about pictures and he said he was about to send some and I never got them. So I called back Tuesday morning and he said he sent them and read me the number he sent them to and it was off by one number. So her resent the pictures to the correct number and I got them. The hood looks to be in really good shape. There may be a few scratches to the left of the ridge on the passenger side and two small stains in the paint from bird poop. One to the left of the scoop and one on top. I asked him if there are any issues with the hood or paint I should know about and he said there is no damage and all it needs is a good cleaning and polishing maybe. I put a deposit down on it yesterday because I won't be able to get up there until Friday to pick it up. It's about a 5 hour drive, but the weather is supposed to be nice so that should actually be fun. The best part is the total for the hood was $175!!!!! Considering that's what you would pay for just the scoop insert pieces at Toyota I think I did good. Here are the pictures he sent me. The stuff that looks like damage to the upper driver side corner is not damage. I asked about it and he said it is plastic tape.
The paint on my stock hood isn't in bad shape but it has a lot of stone chips and stains from bird poop and bugs that weren't washed off quickly and this hood appears to be in at least as good of condition if not better. My stock hood also has a crease in it along the drivers side ridge that I probably really only notice, but it is still there and this hood doesn't appear to have that!

Yeah I know! I wish it was Friday already! It looks to be in really good shape. After looking at these pictures about a million times the only thing that has me worried right now is in the body line on the passenger side it looks like there might be some white stuff in there. That doesn't seem like a very likely place for the clearcoat to go bad so I'm thinking that it's either a reflection or dirt that has built up there. Hopefully it isn't an issue in the paint...
For a comparison of condition here is my stock hood. It is dirty in this picture, but all those white spots are things that don't wash off, it's small chips and places that stuff etched into the paint...
How did you go about transporting your hood in the back of your 4Runner? I'm trying to think of the best way to do this so it stays safe on the ride back.

I'm really excited for you. I was psyched to drive into Deep East Texas to pick up the silver Sport hood and that wasn't even for my 4Runner - it was just to sell (hopefully... eventually). If it were me I would probably have a mechanic in that town where the salvage yard is help me switch out the hoods - that way I could enjoy the view over the bulge on the drive home. Your Sport Hood looks a lot better in the initial photos than the Stellar Blue hood I bought in California. You would be surprised what buffs out in the hands of a professional detailer.
After you fold down your second row the hood will lay flat between the rear wheel humps with the fender adjacent edges of the hood facing towards the front and rear of the 4Runner. I lay down a furniture pad before I load up the hood. It is a very tight fit side to side, so don't worry so much about movement in that direction. Just make sure that the points and corners don't get bent if you slam on the brakes. The points and corners are obviously the most vulnerable parts of the hood. The photo below of the silver Sport hood (with the cup holder insert) was taken with the hood laying flat in my cargo bay. You can see the blue furniture pad underneath. I purchased the furniture pad at U-Haul for $16 specifically for loading hoods and other salvage yard parts into my cargo bay.
Also keep in mind that the engine side of the hood has some hollow metal tube-like structures with large holes. If your hood has been in the salvage yard for a long time there could very well be some insects or other creatures living in there. At the moment I have two 4Runner hoods in my small studio apartment. I was just thinking the other night that those hollow tubes would be a great home for a coral snake, a poisonous spider, or some other deadly, venomous threat. Just something to be wary of if you are storing your hood indoors for any period of time.

I think I'm actually just gonna bring the hood home and switch it out there this way I can do it slowly without rushing and take my time making sure everything is aligned. I'll probably clean it and touch it up before I put it on the 4Runner too. I also need to switch out my bug deflector on the front and my windshield spayers. If it does look like it needs a professional detailing and not just something I can do here it home I'm sure I can find a good place to do that here. Depending on the condition of the paint on the plastic scoop insert I may pull that and paint it, bedline it, or Line-x it like the guy who put the light bar in his did.
I'm glad you're excited too haha. Years ago when I wanted a 3rd Gen I really wanted a Sport edition because there was a green one down the road I used to see all the time. Now I see at least one and sometimes two on my commute and I'm always jealous. Now I don't have to be!
So when your put the hood in the back you have the scoop facing either wheel humps and the kinda pointy corners on the top of the hood on either side of the other wheel hump so it kinda straddles it?
I do plan to bring some old blankets that I have to throw down under it. I hadn't thought about that with the bugs and stuff crawling up in there, I'll give it a quick once over before I put it in. Hopefully there won't be anything because of it being winter, but you never know...

Yes, the side of the hood where the grille goes faces one wheel hump and the side where the windshield goes wraps around the other hump. The photo I took was from the back so I had the scoop opening facing the driver side hump.

Well I have mostly good news, with just a touch of bad news. Not really bad, but I'll explain. I went yesterday and picked up the hood. It was a beautiful day for a nice long drive in the 4Runner through some back roads, and then through Atlanta. Made it through with no issues at all actually for how big of a city it is. I got there and they loaded the hood into the 4Runner for me. The scratches were a little deeper then I anticipated, but not too bad and the paint looked to be perfect otherwise. I took my time going home, stopping at places and such. I averaged 21.1 mpg over almost 700 miles in a 4WD V6 Automatic also!
This morning I pulled the hood out and washed it, got the sticky stuff from the tape off, went over the entire thing with ultimate compound, and scratch X over the scratches. I got most all of the light scratches out, and I'm only left with a few of the deep ones I need to touch up still and haven't gotten to yet. I also want to do something with the scoop insert because it is either really faded or the previous owner painted it flat black and it has a chip in the paint and isn't super even looking. I went to put the hood on, and that's when I realized it actually wasn't an OEM hood... It's an aftermarket of some sort I believe because it isn't stamped TOYOTA and has the regular hood insulation underneath. I should have checked this at the junkyard, but there was so much going on right there that I didn't think to. I was busy looking at the scratches and the paint underneath all the dirt. I wish it was an OEM one, but I honestly can't tell the difference without the hood open, and even then it's hard to tell. For $175 I'm still very happy with it. To get an aftermarket one put together and painted it would have ran me at least $500 I'm sure and I still would have had to drive almost as far to pick up the certifit hood.
It looks amazing on there. The paint match is dead on, and it makes the truck look so much better. I got it put on(super easy), transferred over my 4th gen sprayers, and put my bug deflector on and it looks so good! Here's a few pictures.

The only remaining scratches, but they are only noticeable up very close.
I think it's a very good paint job on this hood. It shines and reflects very well.
I do have a question for you. Does the underside of your scoop look like this with the two empty holes on each side? Is there supposed to be something in these holes, or are they there to drain the water?

Those are exactly my thoughts. For the price I still think I stole it! It looks like your's has one less hole on each side then mine does for whatever reason... Do the holes on your's go all the way through, like you can see light through them?
