2005 Toyota 4runner sR5 4wd 6 cylinder "World Series" closed tranny
Ok, drove aound alot the othe day in the hunded degree weather. Noticed the window in the back looked a little fogged but I thought it was from the heat outside and the super cold A/C inside.... anyways. I'm driving up a steep hill/ small mtn. I notice the transmission starts revving high and wont shift into the final (5th i think) gear. I start wondering WTF look all around at the gauges shifter etc. I check out my mirror and I notice smoke coming out behind the car. Luckily there was a pull off area on I-70 like right there. I pull over (still driving) and immediately look under the car and tranny fluid is leaking/pouring out from the drivers side, very bottom of the trans pan... A little hole that look likes it's supposed to be there because there is a little indentation, and a "check" cap/plug in the same position, on the other side of the transmission. So I am guessing this was the transmission "plug" hole that the fluid was coming out of. I probably lost another quart on the side of the road after I parked, and noticed the smoke was just from the tranny oil hitting the exhaust, and the cause of my slightly foggy window. My question, what happened? You think I just need a new plug and some new fluid? I hear filling these things can be a PITA itself. Any wrench heads out there that can assist me on this? Can I put the plug in, throw some fluids up there and see what she does? If so how do i get the WS ATF in there? It sits about 2 hrs away right now, I'm thinking dolly it home for now, then figure it out....? And by dolly/tow I mean disconnect the driveshaft before I tow it...
