ATV to UTV; talk to me

so ive been riding atv's for years (yes dirt bikers, i know that makes me soft) and my parents have just recently gotten into it too. they have two polaris' an 03 700 twin and a 03 400, both 4x4's. my dad loves to ride and can ride all day long, but my mom is a different story, she can only go so long before her hands and wrists start to tighten up to the point where she cant even steer or press the throttle. Theyre looking to upgrade, and cant decide if they should go to newer atv's with EPS, or if they should jump into something like the RZR 570, because my dad is content to drive all day long and its more of the experience, rather than piloting, for my mother. Any suggestions?

I had a 07 Polaris sportsman and I have numerous friends with the razr, sounds like the razr might fit the bill since your mom will be able to drive it more comfortably with the wheel and your dad would still be able to get out and play. They may be a side by side but I've done some crazy shit in those and they can handle quite a bit of punishment.

They are stupid expensive tho for what they are, the only other alternative would be a sportsman X2 and have mom ride on back when she cramps up.

I think for their intended purposes the RZR will serve them well. My uncle has an older model and I've driven it a bunch, its a blast! One word of caution for your dad - the RZR's are relatively easy to roll. That isn't because it's a bad design or because it can't be controlled - but it's a relatively narrow UTV, a lot of power and a short wheel base. Not being on top of it like an ATV gives you a different sensation and makes you feel more comfortable about pushing it through curves and climbs. Just take it easy until you get a feel for it so he doesn't accidentally roll it. He might also consider upgrading to a 4 pt harness for the seats.

Thanks for the responses, i told them about looking at a dedicated two up machine, but i dont think my mom feels as safe sitting on the back as she would strapped in to the rzr

Get a used Jeep.

They can go nearly all the places I've seen people farting around on UTVs and at the end of the day you still have a useful vehicle, not a trailer toy.

id suggest that, but theyre looking for exactly that, a trailer toy, not to mention it needs to be able to fit on the narrow new england trails we all ride. the rzr's 50" width is the absolute max, and even then, it wont fit all the place we can go with the atvs
