Atypical power antenna problem

Inserted a new antenna in the motor. Motor retracts antenna normally. When radio is turned on, motor grows as it should, but then the motor keeps going, and spits out all the teeth. Then antenna won't retract because the entire antenna has been spit out. Why won't the motor stop when the antenna is all the way up? How do I get it to stop?

I have done this. The interesting this is that the original antenna was not cut up inside the motor. It was intact, but it had also been spit out of the motor completely. The new antenna I bought is significantly longer than the original. Either way, I have inserted both the old and the new into the motor, tightened up everything, and watched as the motor spits out entirely whatever is put in it. Why isn't there anything to catch and stop the motor from running when the antenna is all the way up?

Did you remove the chrome nut before taking out the old mast, and then re-install it after turning the radio off which retracts the new antenna mast? That nut should keep the new mast from extending all the way up and out when the radio is turned on again.

FWIW, I have yet to see a broken antenna mast that didn't leave a broken-off piece in the motor assembly.

OTOH, my experience with them is only based on less than ten antenna mast replacements. My 4runner and FZJ80 LandCruiser, and several other Toyota SUV's belonging to family and friends.

mine did the same so we just had it go up then disconnected the wire to hold it up, small children bent it and my local toyota shop "fixed" it causing it to break off going 70 down the highway flopping all over, put a new one in and it fixed itself lol lazyness wins this time

I figured it out. The rubber part that goes into the motor, guiding the teeth in was not connected. It had disconnected itself somehow and effectively made itself too short. That's why the antenna was out in the first place and not broken. I bought a new one for no reason. Anyway, since the rubber part was too short, I had to push the motor higher above the wheel well, and I was not able to secure it back with the bolt. I had to ziptie it. It will still move around, but hopefully it will be minimal. Now I'm trying to install a switch so the antenna will only go up and down when I so desire.

i have an alpine deck and im surprised it goes down when i go to my ipod, sure is nice so its out of the way and looks cleaner

Anyone have any suggestions for removing this chrome nut when it won't budge? I started by tapping, then effectively banging, all to no avail. I quadruple checked myself that I was banging in the correct direction. I'm tunes-less and tired of changing CDs every morning for my commute! Thanks.
