Hello, I recently purchased a 2007 4runner that has an audio system with WMA/MP3 play capabilities. There is also a AUX adaptor (installed, according to the manual) in the console. The parts guy at the local dealer says I need to have the AUX installed with wiring and another cable to play back MP3 player, at a cost of $200 for parts and ? for installation. The guy at the local audio store says I only need a cable to plug in the AUX and to the MP3 player to playback MP3 thru the audio system. I want to get the right info before I purchase an MP3 player and use the system.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks, Bob M

I may be wrong, but I would assume that if the the aux input is already installed, then the wiring is already there as well.

Find a friend that has an mp3 player ( or anything that has a headphone jack) and test it out; the cable's only a few bucks.

if there is the 3.5mm female plug in your center console labeled AUX just grab the cable like Iolaus mentioned, and you will be all set. If it does not have the plug, there are companies that make aux input adapters and they are alot cheaper than $200

In my 2008, all I needed was the standard patch card with a male plug at each end. Plug one in the player and the other into the console adaptor. Select aux input on the radio.

Drop by a Radio Shack or whatever, they will have the cord for about $10.

Hope that helps.
