Audio Installation Question

Hey guys, I know theres an audio section, but i figure this is 3rd gen specific. i just bought this deck used.

Alpine iDA-X305S Digital media receiver at Crutchfield Signature

The PO lost the wiring harness and I'm guessing this is the one I need to get.

But my main question is which 4runner harness do i get, the PO said that he assumes this is what I need, but it seems super universal, and people with aftermarket radios is this a plug and play?

awesome, thank you, and what is the best fitting tray for our 4runners to fill the empty space?

I think any kit specifically for our 4runners is fine. I just ordered one off a random website and it fit fine and looks clean.

If you don't realize the wiring harness attaches to the one that goes in the back of that oem amp in the 4rnr and not the two that come out of that amp, it could be a little confusing with just the one wiring harness you bought.

You can then ditch that factory amp for a weight savings of <1lb, which easily increases your horsepower like 10% lol.

Soldering is your best bet yes, but not required. I have been using 14 gauge bullet connectors for all my radio installs for years now with no issues. Just crimp them tight and then get some nice wire wrap for them. It will look great and work great. Soldering is fun and more rewarding though.

You can do the soldering on a bench once your harnesses come in. Take your time with it, use heat shrink, and you will have a much better harness than using crimp connections.

will do, is this a good writeup, i know it's for a clarion deck but Alpine should be similar?

yeah that's a good write-up, I used that the first time I installed one.

Just unplug and remove the factory amp and everything plugs/screws in. There should be no soldering/cutting the wires in your truck.

You want to buy a harness, they sell harnesses

They have expert sales support and have always been very helpful when I called.

In fact, if you put the stereo in your shopping cart and select your 4Runner year, the website will recommend a "free harness" - you can then click on that item icon and go to the listing. Save the listing and add it as a separate item to the cart then buy it for $10-15.
