Audio/IPOD Help

I am thinking about buying an IPOD Nano and want to be able to listen in my 06 4Runner. Only problem is I have an aftrmarket system and it was prefessionally put in and I am not sure what I need to do. I have seen the FM transmitters and was wondering how much sound quality you lose with these. Also I know with the 06 Runner we are supposed to have an aux input in center console but have no idea if this has been disabled when my Alpine head unit was put in or not. What is the best way for me to check all of this.

Are teh FM transmitters any good, do you lose alot of sound quality??

Is it possible that my aux plug still works with aftermarket system??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Just dug out owners manual and answered a bit of my questions. I know now that aux port does not work with aftermarket head unit. So I guess my question now is how do the FM transmitters sound??
 
FM transmitters suck, plain and simple, when they work the quality is not very good, and most of the time they don't work that well.

What model is your Alpine? Most newer head units offer an auxilary input, whether it be RCA or mini jack. Look up your alpine on Crutchfield and post and link and I will check it out for you.
 
I am still debating what route I am taking with installing my wife's IPod in the 4Runner and I agree the fm transmitters suck. The main problem is that the antenna is in the back of the 4runner so its hard for the transmitter to receive a clear signal. I end up putting mine on the center console armrest and it always gets knocked around.
 
IPOD FM Transmitter

I had the FM Transmitter (Belkin) it sounded OK, but the more you travel the more static you get. I got tired of using it and went out and bought my New 2006 SE 4Runner!! The Aux jack worked great. Now I installed the AVIC-Z1 which I love, but didn't get the IPOD hookup...I am debating whether or not to get it. I am making .wav files and storing them on my 30 GB HD.

Why are you making .wav files, why not mp3?
 
Audio.IPOD help

I didn't think there was a way to do it. I have tried but the drive won't recognize mp3, only .wav.

Do you know how??
 
I don't know that unit, so I dont know how to make it work...but I would be shocked if it wasn't capable of reading Mp3's, they are much much more common nowadays than a .wav file. I would check the user guide, and if you don't have it, try to download it off of the pioneer website.
 
IPOD Help

No it will play mp3 but it will not store them on the HD. Thats why I have to make the CD as a .wav then store them on the HD.
 
i have tried many things but the best option is by far the pioneer 6800 head unit and the pioneer ipod box; it sounds great and the head unit was made for an ipod it has one big wheel that does everything.
