audio recommendations

i have a brand new 06 sport and am looking to improve audio what are good speakers to up grade i want to conect my 2 10inch JL subs which i have i have the amps and also what to replace my stock head unit with a flatscreen one which has nav and will be able to play mp3 format cd and then will i still be able to use my aux port or just be able to use my ipod with thank u

Well maybe focal/alpine/BostonA/polk speakers and then a pioneer deck like the AVIC-Z1 which I think a lot of people use here.

The Z1 is badass, but it is pretty expensive (MSRP = $2300). You can get out cheaper if you sacrafice some features.

For example..

The AVIC-D2 is a double din nav... with a separate drive for your nav disc so that you don't have to load it like you would for the N1-N3. BUT you do loose the capability of playing DVDs through the unit. It will not play DVDs, at all. I'm thinking these go for like $1300 retail.

Kenwood also has a double din unit that you can add nav too... The cool thing about their nav is that you update it using a SD card. DDX-8017 is the unit you'd want, KNA-G510 is the add on navigation. I think this goes for right around $1700. Oh, and kenwood is the easiest to bypass for video while driving.

Most any nav unit on the market is going to give you your preouts, aux ins and what not... so that's not going to be a problem. Personally as an installer I like the user friendlyness of Pioneer... but it really is a lot of preference.

Also look into Memphis speakers. For the money they are rockin' speakers. You'll have to find a local shop to have them because they refuse to allow franchises to have them. www.memphiscaraudio.com

Whaz up? Just took delivery of a new awesome 2006 4Runner Sport in Galactic Grey! I have the premium (not JBL) 6 disc changer. (Fijitsu ten?) anyway anyone out there that has upgaded this system? Thinking about:

1. Just going with a Scion HU. (does Scion just have more power? or are there other sonic qualities?)

2. Keeping stock HU, adding an JBL 75 w/c amp to power kicker 6.5" sperates in the front doors, Protech 10" sub with Sony 100 watt sub amp, (all which I already have from my old Blazer) the rear fill back doors are stock for now.

3. full blown system change. (not really wanted as the vehicle is leased and mods will have to be able to be rolled back to stock if I decide to go to the '09 4Runner when that day comes. I also like the steering wheel controls)

But have from old truck:
Clarion CD Head unit
Concord amp 35 w/c extremely small
Concord amp 50 w/c
JBL amp 75 w/c
Sony sub mono amp 100w
Kicker Seperates 6.5"
Alpine 5 1/4" coax
Protech 10" Sub.

Nitnoid - They don't call the optional 6CD upgrade (over single CD)their "Premium" system --- the JBL is the "Premium" system - with extra speakers and amp.

I beg to differ, I'm loking at the 06 brochure and here are the offerings:

1. AM/FM/CD Stereo w/6 speakers - standard equipment.

2. Premium AM/FM 6 disc In dash changer - option DJ

3. JBL Synthesis system with amp and 10 speakers (center channel and sub) - option EJ

4. JBL with Navigation...

Strange - are you in US? My '06 info says that is code for single JBL version:

DJ JBL Synthesis 3-in-1 Audio
Includes JBL Synthesis with CD player, cassette deck and 10 speakers including center channel and subwoofer, rear seat audio, remote control and wireless headphone capability

And EJ is the 6 CD version:

EJ JBL Synthesis 3-in-1 Stereo w/6-Disc Changer
Includes JBL Synthesis with 6-disc in-dash CD player and cassette and 10 speakers including center channel and subwoofer

I'm in CT. Salesman told me sometime between 05-06 toyota dropped the 3 in 1 JBL and repalced it with thier own "premium" 6 disc changer - 6 speaker system.

anyway, did you do any stereo upgrades?
