Auto conversion / 2WD trans?

Hello. I'm still new to T4Rs and the group, so forgive me if I'm asking an old question - I did search the archives, but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have an 85 auto and was wondering about a 5spd manual conversion. Also, I have an 83 longbed pickup 2WD that is low miles but rusting into oblivion. Any chance I could use the trans from the pickup? Or any other parts that might be worth salvaging for the T4R?

Any parts places recommended for conversion parts? Kits? Thoughts?

TIA

drivetrain spec link; tranny swap links?

Thanks for the link. I spent several hours browsing several sites this morning. Your link led me to another link that answered my question about the compatibility of the pickup and T4R...

Appears the 83 pickup is a completely different model, so it probably won't work.

I was surprised in all my searching that I didn't find a thread or site that gave a complete description/advice about an auto-manual swap. It's probably out there somewhere, but I sure did a lot of looking for zero results. Maybe it's just soooooo easy that nobody ever bothered to document the procedure?

Any help on the swap idea would be much appreciated!

The 83 2WD tranny would bolt up to the 22R/E engine, but you can't bolt the t-case to a 2WD tranny.

You can replace the 85 auto w/ a 4WD manual, but you will need the manual's t-case too, the auto t-case won't work. An 85-89 EFI 4 cyl tranny/t-case will work.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info...confirms that it's probably better to sell the complete, running pickup to support my new T4R habit.
