THere is not much in price difference between a detroit and an arb. Maybe $200. If you want to save more go with a lockright or an Aussie Locker. I have an aussie up front and a lockright in the rear. Each was under $300. I would strongly recommend going with the aussie in the back over a lockright because the toyota v6 lockright re-uses the stock side gears, the aussie gives you a new piece that replaces those side gears and they are about the same amount of money.
THe clicking is normal. I daily drive mine with the rear locker for a few months until I got a car and it wasnt bad at all. You will have to learn how to drive it, but after a few months you will almost forget it is there. I would also say save your money rather than but that trutrac. thats an LSD not a locker and it will open up if you get a tire in the air or really low traction.

I haven't had a TrueTrac but I have had both Lockrights and Detroits and I would recommend the detroit. Smooth and strong. Never had a problem with it on my Rockbuggy with 37's whether I was driving it to town or running the hammers.

if uwant auto locker get detroit. quiet and smooth. if you dont care about noise and smoothness, aussie is cheap and pretty bulletproof and works like a charm. so far. also, aussie needs no LSD additive in gear oil.
personally, i would not get an auto locker again unless it was a detroit. and really would prob not get an auto locker again regardless. arb/elocker are the best as far as stress on your drivetrain goes on a daily basis. IMO.

I got my price quote from Justdifferentials.com and the trutrac is $422.86 and the ARB with compressor is $1148.50. For a complete regear front and rear with ARB in the rear it will be $2018.04. I might just hold out until October when ZUK here in PHX can do it.

If you look around, you can get the rear ARB for ~$750 total. There's also no need to buy the bigger compressor for ~$275 when the small ARB comp works fine for just the lockers and it's ~$150. Also, once in a while ARB will run a deal where you get a small comp for free with the purchase of a locker.
I have the small ARB comp and I run both the front and rear lockers with it and it works great. The bigger comp is designed to run the lockers and also fill up tires, rafts or whatever else. I personally have heard of a few people burning out the big ARB comps when they use them to fill up their tires a lot. I like the idea of dedicating the small ARB comp for the lockers only, then go get a separate (and cheaper) portable comp for your tires. That's what I did. I've had my small ARB comp for 2 years now and it's a good strong little unit.

i was cheap before and wish i had done it right the first time. thats the saying at least . . . do it right the first time and you wont have to do it again. and now, after having an aussie, im really considering the ARB because it is selectable. it just makes so much more sense from a wear and tear outlook on the vehicle. all that clanking and binding cant be good for the drivetrain.

On the different forums and the various off road magazines and catalogs I get. I think the ARB locker/comp deal was a dealer-wide promotion a while back, but sometimes certain stores do deals and advertise them.
A few months ago, jsmithjr732 got an ARB bumper from 4wheelfarts. Right before he got it, I saw an ad in the header/footer on ih8mud that said, "Buy an ARB bumper from 4wheelfarts and receive a free set of IPF off road lights". So I asked him if he got them and he didn't know about it. I told him about the ad and he went back to 4wheelfarts and they looked the ad up right there on ih8mud and then gave him a free set of $175 lights. I have the same lights (which I paid for) and they're really nice.
