Auto tranny expert needed

So I have an '89 with V6 and the a340h. Problems I've having is a huge jerk when going from P into R or D and then some rough shifts at times going through gears. The rough shifts aren't really that bad, but the jerk/jump is, especially with the cold weather since it idles much higher on cold starts. There's no slop in the driveline and a few months ago I flushed the fluids. Was going to go ahead and swap out the solenoids but before dropping $150 or so, I wanted to make sure thats kinda what it was sounding like. I'm good with mechanics and engines, but auto trannies have always been a big magic box to me.

Also, looking at replacement solenoids, there seems to be a bunch for sale of a340e and f for much cheaper then the ones specifically listed for the a340h, yet they claim they fit the 4runners. Any experience out there on this?

I've been in the market for solenoids myself (and also got the A340H)

It sounds to me like putting solinoids in would be a waste that you just need to save money for a new trani.

So what yall are saying is might as well save up for a 5.3 conv and swap a tranny at the same time...... guess i'll break the bad news to the wife! :bigok:

Tranny check

Before u do the shift cillinoids put it in neutral pull the park brake and check the drive shaft and u joints for slop or play and for visual damage

If you suspect the solenoids shift the tranny manually while you drive. The solenoids control the shift points. My runner would start from a dead start in 2nd or 3rd gear. Took forever to get up to speed, but If I manually shifted, it ran "normal".

Sounds alike a pump or pressure issue.
