Well my 4runner has failed me yet again for the second winter in a row....transmission is done for, I put it in drive and press the gas and I rev to the sky but no go and once it does move it doesn't move as well as it should not shift when it should ect.....come to a light and when it turns green again just revs and no go for a few tries.

So I need a new transmission for my 3.0 any one got one? Not looking to spend a lot but wwell I don't really got a choice.....can't afford a new t4r.

Can I reuse my transfer case? What about a 2nd gen tranny?

What shoud I do about a torque converter?(mine might be bad)

The auto trans for the 3.0 was the same from 88-95.
As for the torque conv, if it's bad you could replace it or have it rebuilt.

Sweet that gives me more options of years I can look for.......were the trans ecm's all the same too?

How can I tell if the converter is bad?

i kept my eye on ebay for about a week or so for the same trans (A34OH) and with a little patience i found one in NH with 90,000 miles on it for $95. it came complete with a transfer case, torque converter and a relatively shiny cross mumber. i even ended up putting in an radiator i got off an old ford club wagon while i had easy access to everything. it may even be economically feasible to find a whole 4runner destined for the junk yard, as we all know most of the time the they rust out long before the drivetrain dies. i wouldn't mind having a 'donor' in the backyard for the unexpected.

Well I'm gonna try draining the trans and refilling it with the proper amount of atf and see what happens( it might have gotten over filled, when. I checked it last)

i wouldn't drain all the fluid, in your case it may very well depend on the grit in the fluid move at all

I'm planning on reusing some of the old fluid....I just wanna try all my options before I condem it and get a new one.

Can a over fill cause it to slip? These stupid trucks are so hard to check the trans mission. Does anyone know how much should be in it?

i believe i ended up using around 2-1/2 Gallons for a comeplete flush and fill (torque conv. and all)

Does our auto tranny have a drain plug and a fill plug? Or is it drop the trans pan to drain and fill through dip stick.??

Thanks spencer I'm calling on the one in cincy tommorrow

My 93 has a drain plug on the tranny. Also, overfilling causing foaming and all sorts of issues in an automatic. It is actually better to have low fluid than high (I know sounds stupid). I'm not sure how this transmission is set up but generally there are a few things that will control an upshift. Governor, tv cable or modulator (Have you recently adjusted something on the throttle linkage? you could've affected a tv cable) if hydraulic or tps and speed sensors if electronic (does your speedo work?). Then of course the valve body which interprets the inputs from the above mentioned. I'd just hate to see you get a different tranny and go through all the hassle and not even need it. Or even worse you replace it and have the same issues.

Haven't adjisted anything at all. Speedo still works along with the tachometer. I'm gonna recheck the fluid and if its full drain some out and see if it does the same thing as it has been(slipping).

car-part.com is a good site to check, it's the site a lot of junkyards use when you ask them for something they know the don't have, hope this helps

i'm assuming the new fluid didn't help much.. i added lucas slip stop and it got me through until i could get a new trans. just a thought.
