Auto window roll down feature stopped working

I know it's an old thread, but I have a similar question.
I am having the opposite problem.
I want to STOP the window from doing the AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN feature.
My window will ONLY go all the way down with one touch,
or all the way UP with one touch.
And I know you're supposed to hit the button to stop it part way...
but my window doesn't work that way.
If you hit it once, it starts to go all the way down,
if you hit it quickly in mid run, it simply goes all the way back up.

Anyone know how to UN-program the window?

Yes, you need to reset the one-touch features on the power windows and moonroof when you disconnect the battery. The windows use less power to close these days (so they're less likely to crush hands or fingers), so they need to "remember" where the closed position is.

To reset the driver's side power window auto-close:
1. Push down and hold the driver’s door power window switch to completely open the window.
2. Pull and hold up the driver’s door power window switch until the window closes. Continue holding the switch for approximately one second until the switch changes from blinking to a constant illumination.
3. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch open/close” by pushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” positions.

To reset the moonroof one-touch operation:
With ignition switch in the “ON” position, do the following:
1. Push and hold the “TILT UP” side of the switch until the moon roof tilts all the way up and then tilts down slightly (approximately 10 mm [0.39 in.] at the rear).
2. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch slide open/close” and “one–touch tilt up/down” functions by pushing the switch briefly to the “SLIDE OPEN” and
“TILT UP” positions.

To reset the rear window operation:
1. Turn ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Push the back door power window switch to the “DOWN” side to open the window.
3. Push and hold the back door power window switch to the “UP” side until the window closes. Continue holding it for approximately 1 second.
4. Check for proper operation of the “one-touch open/close” functions by pushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” position.

The compass will also need to be reset if you disconnect the battery. Instructions for that are in the Owners Manual. You need to look at a map of the country to determine which zone you're in, and the instuructions are slightly different for 2003-2006 vs. 2007-2009.

Do you have to do this? I absolutely HATE auto roll features and would prefer to leave themy non auto if that won't hurt anything

Thanks so much for posting this! I had my battery replaced the other day, and experienced all these problems. Genius!

Thank you so much!! I spent hours trying to replace my rear tailgate assembly and this forum gave me all of the answers I needed!!! From removal of the old unit to installation of the new one to resetting the electronics!! Thank you so much to everyone that has contributed to this forum! You guys took a seemingly impossible-to-repair problem and helped me figure it out at the lowest cost and in the most straightforward way! Love you guys!!

This place rocks!!

Installed a new radio a few days ago, disconnected the battery as part of the steps. Had this issue at the end, had no idea about "normalizing" the windows.

Ran the back window down and then up, everything now working. This is exactly why forums/boards like this one are the best.

So relieved

Just bought a 2006 4Runner last week. Yesterday I discovered the rear wiper and defroster weren't working, and I was beginning to regret purchasing an 11 year old vehicle. But a quick search on this forum revealed the solution. I had disconnected my battery a few days ago. Back in business now. Thanks!

2001 4 R rear window

Hey I got a replacement key fob from Amazon and even with weak door lock actuators was able to get into program mode and get door locks to work with new remote, but the rear window down function won't work. The function does work with original key remote. Any Ideas/ Also the panic horn sounds wh
ether I use the window switch or panic button.

Thank you so much!

His was an extremely helpful post. Momma started to freak out a lil when things were not working!

Thanks a million!

To reset the moonroof one-touch operation:

“TILT UP” positions.

Love you guys.... Thanks for sharing all this greet info

Solution is Here. Please Follow Following Steps

Ensure the vehicle is in park.
Inspect the key for damage.
Ensure there is nothing stuck to the key.
Check to see if the steering wheel is locked.

I just recently noticed that my moonroof isn't closing completely and is about a quarter inch low in the back when using the auto feature.

I had to go through the procedure described here after my battery was disconnected and thought everything was fine. However having a closer look from the outside it seems a bit off. I do seem to remember a strange occurrence when resetting initially and a think there was a skip/grind sound when holding the moonroof button.

Anyhow, I'm curious if there is a way to reset again without disconnecting the battery.

Cheers

I had the same problem. Press the “Tilt Up” button to the roof, when the window gets to the tilt position continue to hold the button for another 3 to 5 seconds. It will reset the opening function.

Thanks for the reply, will remember that. Funny enough, wife offered to close it while I was driving and when I went to open again the auto open was no longer working. She must have done that when closing. Anyhow I thanked her profusely and went through the procedure to enable auto open/close again and this time we have a good seal, sits flush!

Fourteen years after the original post, still a handy piece of information! Just solved something that would have driven me nuts otherwise lol...
thanks!!

Hey guys I disconnected my battery and did all the auto features for driver window and Moon roof... Tried everything to re program the rear window auto settings and nothing is working. The key hole and fob only crack the window a little bit. Any ideas about this???
