Auto window roll down feature stopped working

Reporting another stuck tailgate on a 2004.

I went through pretty much all the troubleshooting procedures on this thread but had no luck. The bad part is that no matter what combination of actions I do up/down together/separate with the two levers it does not open the hatch.

I am not sure if I order the part how will I open the hatch in the first place; I can hear the mechanism working when I pull on the handle but the levers do not move. The window works well both with the keyfob and in the lock

Rear window will not lower/raise with key

I just replaced my rear hatch with used door. The only thing I switched from my old door was the key switch. On my old door, the interior switch, key fob and door key switch all worked. Right now, the interior switch will raise and lower the window, but automatic doesn’t work. The key fob will not move the window and the key will not open/close the window from the rear hatch. The key will unlock/lock the doors though. Is there a component that specifically only does the key switch/key fob and automatic functions of the window? I also tried resetting the window and nothing changed. Thanks!

So I have a similar issue but dont think the solution is the same. My passenger side window will not roll down from the drivers side panel but it will roll down from the passengers side. The drivers side works for the drivers side just not the passengers. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

My rear wiper also doesnt work. I’m thinking that the window doesn’t know that it’s closed but it’s not relearning it’s position through the reset.

I already tried putting on the old door ECU which worked with the key switch.

Any help is appreciated!

Yes, you need to reset the one-touch features on the power windows and moonroof when you disconnect the battery. The windows use less power to close these days (so they're less likely to crush hands or fingers), so they need to "remember" where the closed position is.

To reset the driver's side power window auto-close:
1. Push down and hold the driver’s door power window switch to completely open the window.
2. Pull and hold up the driver’s door power window switch until the window closes. Continue holding the switch for approximately one second until the switch changes from blinking to a constant illumination.
3. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch open/close” by pushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” positions.

To reset the moonroof one-touch operation:
With ignition switch in the “ON” position, do the following:
1. Push and hold the “TILT UP” side of the switch until the moon roof tilts all the way up and then tilts down slightly (approximately 10 mm [0.39 in.] at the rear).
2. Check for proper operation of the “one–touch slide open/close” and “one–touch tilt up/down” functions by pushing the switch briefly to the “SLIDE OPEN” and
“TILT UP” positions.

To reset the rear window operation:
1. Turn ignition switch to the “ON” position.
2. Push the back door power window switch to the “DOWN” side to open the window.
3. Push and hold the back door power window switch to the “UP” side until the window closes. Continue holding it for approximately 1 second.
4. Check for proper operation of the “one-touch open/close” functions by pushing the switch briefly to the “DOWN” and “UP” position.

The compass will also need to be reset if you disconnect the battery. Instructions for that are in the Owners Manual. You need to look at a map of the country to determine which zone you're in, and the instuructions are slightly different for 2003-2006 vs. 2007-2009.

I also wanted to share that my rear defroster/defogger was not working until I went through this process for my driver side window auto open/close, rear window auto open/close and sunroof auto open/close. Once that was done my rear defroster/defogger button start working again.

I had the same issue a while ago, it did it for a week or two & doesn’t do it anymore. I think it was just a temporary issue

I'm having a similar problem with my 4runner but following the steps doesn't seem to fix it. My AUTO light blinks constantly when driving, but never blinks when I follow the reset instructions. After the first reset attempt, I thought it was the LED, replaced the LED, didn't help (I know the LED wouldn't explain the auto function not working but I didn't think about it at the time and only noticed the blinking light). Bought a whole new switch assembly, connected it today, same thing. Tried following the reset after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, the reset worked successfully for the sunroof and rear window, but I can't seem do anything with the drivers window. Any ideas what it could be? I tried the reset instructions posted here about 10 times before I gave up and posted this

I am having this exact issue after replacing the regulator and motor. All of the windows go up and down with no problem, but I can't reset the driver's window to go back to auto mode. The light also flashes now. 2 flashes then pause, 2 flashes then pause. etc

If anyone else is experiencing this issue, I ended up ordering a new replacement switch on Amazon. Installed it this morning and my auto up and down worked immediately after resetting the switch. Gotta love a $23 easy fix!

Same here

I’m having the exact same issue with my 2000 Limited 4x4, and it’s been frustrating trying to track down the cause. Like you, I’ve replaced the air filter, changed the spark plugs, and even cleaned the MAF sensor, but the problem persists. From what I’ve read and experienced, it could be a failing fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or a throttle position sensor (TPS) issue. A weak fuel pump might not be delivering enough pressure under load, causing the engine to bog down when you give it more throttle. I’m planning to check my fuel pressure next to see if that’s the issue. Have you looked into that yet? Let me know if you’ve found a fix—I’d love to get this sorted out!

was able to get the driver side window auto to work, but not sunroof!

does anyone have the correct sequence to get the sunroof auto open/close to work after a battery disconnection?
