Autodim Rearview mirror with backup LCD, compass & homelink ?

I know that gentex.com has something like this as a new product but they dont say if its available or when.

This would truly be an all in one rearview mirror as I frequently need to jump out the truck to see how much space i have in the back.

You probably saw the one from audiovox, i think its about $500. Worth it if it had autodim, homelink & compass but it has some bad reviews, main thing being that you cant really see clearly in the mirror !

I dont know how long we have to wait for one of these but now I'm curious about just getting an audio backup sensor, beep beep beep...

Anyone have one of those ?

When I installed the mirror in the Camry, I got it from a guy named Bob Prim. You might e-mail him to see if he has what you want -- I was pleased with the price. His e-mail address is [email protected]

I've not dealt with him since early 2004, but the transaction was smooth and he did as he promised.

Gah. I hate those. My friend who has a Sequoia has one. I goes something like 5 feet, 3 feet, CRASH, CRASH, CRASH, BEEEBPEBPEBPEBPEPBEBPEBPEBPEPB). Lol, especially when he tows his trailer, o now that is annoying. It's just my opinion though. Some people tend to like them.

Ford has that wonderful "BEEP BEEP BEEP" backup sensor... the beeps correlate to the circumference of the earth in relation to what you're backing up into divided by pi.
Anyway... it was the most obnoxious thing ever, every time you put the truck into reverse it started beeping erratically. But that's just Ford and their meaningless "technology"

I just called Mitocorp ( licensed distributor of Gentex ) and they said the mirror with backup lcd/compass will be available at or around SEMA time. That's like almost a year away ! I guess they want to keep folks waiting. The same mirror with homelink will be available a year after that.

I guess I'll go with the homelink mod for now and wait for the mirror.

Just received a call from Ron @ Gentex, said they will be manufactured as OEM for Ford, Toyota etc and will not be available as aftermarket accessory for some time, atleast 2 years. Kept going on and on about how difficult of an installation this would be, lots of wires etc.

Exactly right. I originally had this thing in my truck and the backup mirror sucked - very very difficult to see, and distracting to boot. I had it taken out and then I put in the auto dimming mirror and homelink. Much better.
