Hello all! I have an issue with my 98 4runner automatic shift handle being very loose and after searching, know I need to change the bushings out. Does anyone have a good link to the change process and part numbers for the 98 model year?
205,000 on it and the best vehicle I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few!
Still good and tight doors and body and runs like a new one except for those bushings!

Sloppy automatic shifter - YotaTech Forums

Just a heads up, I thought this was my issue but it turns out it was not. All I needed to do was tighten up the shifter to the rod that runs to the transmission and all was good. My bushings were just fine after 196,000 miles. You can replace that gasket if you want for good measure (I did), it's part #33723H at the bottom of the part diagram.

Help!!

Hey everyone I recently wanted to replace my shifter bushings in my 2wd 96 4runner, it has been such a pain , so i removed the shifter from the transmission linkage and everything and guess what , still no success . I’m sick of it and feel like a failure so I thought why don’t I just take it to a shop , but I didn’t want to give up so tried again and then my ENGAGE BUTTON breaks off my shifter (2wd shifter) the little knob on the left side to put it in head. What do I do?? Im so down on myself , hell i didn’t even know how to make a post so I commented on this one. Anyone’s responses helps .. I thought I could gorilla glue it but idk I just need help. I have a 99 4runner so I do have a car rn but this is just ridiculous . I even did this job on my 99 with no issues 1 year ago. I feel like a failure, help me out 3rd gen community

Parts break shit happens, don’t stress to hard on it. Worst comes to worst look on Craigslist for a part out or the junkyard to find a replacement. Post up a picture

True, I got it for $1500 with 174,000 miles with nothing wrong with it other then these shifter bushings and front brake pads eventually but yeah you’re right.. prob less then $100 for a used one , I’ll post a picture soon. Preciate your response man.
