On my 1993 Runner AT (which I purchased two weeks ago) I'm noticing that the gear selector is a bit stiff when shifting from park to the driving gears reverse and drive. Not so stiff that it takes a great deal of force to shift, but it just isn't smooth. Everything engages fine (maybe a slight lurch from time to time when the tranny engages). I feel as though the transition between the gear selections should be smoother.
I'm just wondering if this is a sign of things to come.
On my wife's 3rd Gen (2000) I recall her gear selector was stiff as well. We eventually had to have the transmission rebuilt and now everything works smoothly.
Are the two related? Or is a smooth shift just a by-product of a new/rebuilt transmission.
By the way, my 93 is a v6 3.0 with 164,000+ miles.
ETA - I just had the transmission drained and filled at the dealership today.
