Has anybody installed a remote filter for the tranny?

Folks have done the spin on filter with a remote bracket, or as Ripcord, myself, and others have, a inline filter that houses a magnet in it. The latter works well, at least for me.

Where do you guys get the inline style filter? That would be way easier than doing the spin on style.

I was thinking about doing this when I replace my radiator. However, I've also heard that it could clog and destroy the transmission. You can get this stuff on amazon.

if there is enough crap coming out of your transmission to clog one of these filters, it's going to clog up someplace else and/or your transmission is on it's way out. These filters are extremely safe....every 4Runner in my family has one installed. Sisters 4runner has 245k on the original transmission, still drives like new.

The only problems that have been reported with Magnefines is that they can leak around the connectors. If you are worried about such, use new 3/8 ATF hose. I think the clogging filter is more myth than reality, or happens <.001% of the time; I have not seen one documented case of that kind of failure on the Web.

The best place is to put it where Ripcord has it, right after the coolant passed through all the coolers but before it reenters the transmission.

Yes, if you overtighten the clamp, it'll leak a tiny bit. Not enough to matter though.

But...the best place to put the filter is BEFORE the cooler, if it's a new cooler install. If the cooler has already been there, then install the filter after the cooler. But if it's a brand new cooler, clean inside, it's best to keep the crud out of the cooler by putting the filter in front of it.

sense i am running dual coolers, i have my filter between the coolers and yeah no leaks for me, if your concerned about it "clogging up" then just replace it every other time you do an oil change, they are only like $8...

Yep, it is 5,000 miles before it goes after the cooler. Why one can't keep it there forever is beyond me.
