I was surprised to see the 4th gen so far down the list. I don't agree with the whole "it's just a used car". Clearly he has never searched for one or paid attention to the crazy resale on these things. Maybe I'm just biased since I've owned 4 4th Gens and got rid of a new 5th Gen to go back to another 4th Gen a few years ago.
 
i think that doug demuro should of just reviewed a limited fully loaded model instead of the trd pro. both are nice trucks, ill just keep my 4th gen for a while now.

Find any other car that tops that........

I think its funny that he clearly doesn’t know what he is talking about as he states “large one is the sequoia, and the even larger one the Landcruiser”. Just because the landcruiser is more doesn’t make it larger. The guy for being a journalist doesn’t seem to be too knowledgeable in the subject matter he is saying he is an expert in.
 
I agree with number 1. The 3rd gen was probably the best overall when it comes to reliability, offroadability, and popularity. The 4th gen should be number to because it had the v8 and its current popularity and resale value.

Honestly, it’s not the 4runners fault it is just a used car at this point. It’s still modern enough and comparable to 5th gen for common people while being 10s of thousands less. The newest ones are just at the 10 year mark. You still see them quite literally everywhere. Every sketchy used dealership has at least one worn out 2wd 4th gen. It just the nature of the age of the vehicle.

Really the only other option for it is that it could be like an Xterra and be completely worthless and nowhere to be seen 10-15 years later.

But I do agree, the v6 4th gen is 95% of a 5th gen at a fraction of the price and way more reliable than a 3rd. The v8 will go down in the books as the most sought after in no time, at least at Toyota’s current rate.

You have to take the guy with a huge grain of salt, in my opinion. I've watched a lot of his videos and he seems to have his mind blown about the most trivial of things. Maybe it's for show. Maybe I just grew up with stuff that I don't consider weird.
 
I don’t necessarily agree with that list. Of course I like all of those generations because they’re 4Runners. But the 4th gen was the only one to offer a V8. Something that car guys such as ourselves have a hard time living without nowadays.

My personal ranking would be: 4th gen, 3rd gen, 5th gen, 2nd gen, & 1st.
 
I’m surprised to see the 5th gen over the 4th. But to be devils advocate, the 5th gen IS on it’s like, 9th year and counting.
 
Tough call on 1st through 3rd spots but I'd place the 2nd gen last. My list would probably go like 3rd>4th>5th>1st>2nd. Like I said, 1st through 3rd could be a 3-way tie because I really like all three of those generations and they each have something cool to offer.

But...your Canadian? Kidding, but you are probably right he just over sensationalizes things. Either way its a lot of “duh” and “dumb” in his video
 
This guy's opinion is just "one guy's" opinion even if he's an "expert" (NOT), I doubt if he's ever owned a 4Runner, I'm guessing he may have driven a few for a day or two, I always look at what owners of a vehicle has to say about how they rank the vehicle, not some review expert.

He'd probably pee himself if he ever drove a three-on-the-tree or had to use the floor push button high beam switch.

He's like if Jay Leno had a bastard child with Jay Leno.
 
I wonder if the 4th gen would have been any more popular if Toyota would have just given us the Prado badged as a 4Runner.
