Aux Battery and On Board Air

Alright guys, I'm now looking to put a second battery into my 4Runner as well as an on board air compressor. I've looked over multiple threads, but I'm still confused as what all I need to get these done. For the tray, should I go with the Dirty Parts? Should I get just the tray or the whole kit? Which air compressor should I get as well? I have no idea about these. I just want to be able to air up my tires on the go.

Questions:

1: Why do you think you need a second battery? leads to..
2: Where are you thinking of a second battery? leads to..
3: Where are you planning to put the on board air compressor and tank?

What i did might be right up your alley, depending on how you answer.
 
Winch is at the house waiting for installation, will likely be adding some extra lighting at some point and will be doing some off the grid camping in the near future. Getting stranded isn't in the game plan. Would like to mount it in the engine bay, probably opposite the first battery. I would like the compressor to go in there as well.

OK!

Here are my suggestions and what i have done.

First battery:

I understand the need for a second AUX in case the first fails. Thats why i have a portable jumpbox in the rear for such an emergency. What i did was install a HUGE battery up front. Stinger SPP1700 Stinger Electronics | Product Details

probably the largest one to fit in there!

lighting/electronics

I have the following
  • 42" 80x5w= LED light bar
  • Rigid Industries Dually D2 in front bumper
  • Pair of Creed 2x2 spot pattern on CBI ditch brackets
  • Pair of Creed 2x2 flood pattern on CBI ditch brackets
  • 12" Engo 24x3w =72watt Creed LED lightbar on a Poison Syder Hawse Fairlead mount
  • Pair of Creed 2x3 flood pattern lights in rear bumper
  • Warn VR10000 winch on a Budbuilt Hidden Winch mount
  • Kenwood X700.5 Amp
  • ViAir 350C 100psi 100% constant duty airpump
  • ViAir 1 gallon air tank @ 150psi

here is the battery in action on the right, on the left you see my port for airline, on the far left near firewall. thats where the air tank is mounted.


As for on-board air. I am using ViAir 350c pump, ViAir 1 gallon tank, all under the hood. Look at my thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...4runner-hornblasters-install-look-inside.html for ideas, parts list, mounting locations, etc
 
What do you need a compressor for?

For example, I plan in the future to use my on-board air system for not only filling tires, possibly a locker, but also for running air tools such as my Snap-On gun from work. So I need a compressor that is both small enough and powerful enough to put out about 4CFM @ 100psi. The compressor I found that fits that criteria sucks down about 80amps while operating, which is a lot; but it meets my needs and is small enough to fit in the engine bay if you wanted it to.

There's a ton of different compressors for different needs.

The 2nd Battery is just for my fridge and aux outlet in the back.

I just need it for the tires. I want to be able to sit down and back up on the go.

it comes down to convenience over cost IMO. If you want a kit where you can just plug and chug then get the dirty parts kit and call it a day. Other option can save you money by piecing your own kit together or more options at about the same cost.

I'm in the middle of wiring up mine and I'm using the t - max dual battery kit (comes with an in cabin monitor for each battery and charging power as long as remote battery linking). I got a bare steel group 34 battery tray from Ballistic Fabrication for cheap and am just fabbing a couple brackets for it to fit behind the V8 air box.

If you piece it together yourself you just need a tray, battery, isolator, couple high amp fuses for the power wire run, cable and some battery lugs.

If you just need a compressor for airing up check out the 'MV 50'. Hard to beat from a value standpoint. It's worked well for me.
