Aux input in center console

I am brand new here and am pretty sure this question has been addressed before so humor me please. I have a 2006 4Runner with th Aux input in the center console. I have connected a couple of devices (a small Sony radio/MP3 player & HTC Evo w/Pandora) and could get neither to work. It makes the usual hum and pop when plugged in and out but that's it. Any suggestions?
Thanks

is the volume on the mp3 device turned all the way up? it's just a simple head phone/micro phone jack if you getting the pop and hum then theres certainly a connection being made def.a weird senerio though im certainly assuming you did have the volumes up though

I hate to be an Apple advocate, but if you get a deck with a iPod hook up you get good clean sound. My Pioneer deck actually has a AUX input as well on it, so I can use my Android phone for Pandora, and my iPod if I so choose.

A good $$ deck will create good clean sound out of a AUX input as well. Can't go cheap with anything that is delivering your audio signal, from the deck to the AUX cord, be sure to get quality items.

The sound quality when using my ipod sounds pretty decent when using the aux input; however, the sound quality is crap on my windows Nokia phone, when streaming Slacker radio. My old LG Android sounded better. Some devices just don't work as good as others.

Radial, whant kind of Pioneer deck are you running? I have been toying with the idea of updating my stock Headunit.
