Aux input question

Ok I've looked on here for a way to hook up my iPod to my 4Runner. I've seen threads that have mentioned the TOY03-Aux from PIE. I'm looking for a little more explanation for the install of this item.

I have an 03 with the JBL stereo with the all in one in dash 6 disc changer and no navigation. Now I've seen on some sites where it says that this unit will work with my setup and some say it won't. I'm looking to see if you guys have any input on this before I rip the head unit out of the dash.

Will this item work or do I need to look for something different....

I think for the 2003 you would need the PIE TOY-Aux (not 03). You probably have the older style 12 pin plug which is larger than the 2004 and up HU.
The Aux-03 has a smaller 12 pin plug.
I've been very pleased with my PIE Toy-03 Aux.
I got mine from : Enfig Car Stereo
Best price and very fast shipping.
Good luck.

I'm not positive on the part number you listed - double-check at www.pie.net. I've been using -- and really enjoying -- one of their aux input adapters for a couple years now without problems. I've got a 2004 with the same stereo you've got. It'll work great.

As for installation, it's pretty easy as long as you take the dashboard removal slowly. You plug a cord into the back of your head unit to make it think the iPod is a CD changer. The adapter itself is about 3 inches by 4 inches and fits nicely into a little area under and behind the heating-AC controls in the dashboard. You get a Y-cord, plug the RC jacks into the adapter and the other end into your iPod and it's ready to go.

Thanks for the info. :)

I'm currently using a PIE adapter for my Silverado and it works great, I'm just unsure as to what might work with my current 4Runner setup.

I have an 03 LTD with the same stereo. I also read through all the threads and was having a hard time figuring out what would work. I ended up getting the Harmon - Kardon unit. I first installed with the hard wired FM but it sounded like crap. I got a USA Spec DFTOY Aux input and ran the HK unit through that and it sounds great. I just had to run a ground loop isolator on the power for th eHK to dtop the buzz. The DF TOY runs around $70 buck (Circuit City , Crutchfield, etc) and simply gives you an Aux input. It does not charge or have controls through the factory radio. I believe the USA Spec PA11 will also works and charge the IPOD and allow some control through the factory radio.

If I had it to do over I'd probably just go with that rather than the HK unit. Or for $70 just use the DF TOY and keep the IPON in the glove compartment or center console.

Either way, I know the DFTOY was just a simple plug in, I assume the PA11 would be the same.

Well after speaking to Logjam Electronics tech support and pulling out my head unit last night I think I'm gona go with the Toy03-aux.

I verified the 12 pin connector on my head unit and the Logjam Tech said if it does not work I will be able to return it for a refund.

I guess we'll see how it goes...:biggrin2:
