I am installing the AVIC-D1 into a 05 se w/0 JBL sys. I have all the wiring and info I need. Has anyone here ever installed this unit and what mounting method did you use? IE factory brakets, metal sleeve that comes with unit, or after market brackets? And any mod's you had to do to make it fit.

Any help would be great b4 I get it all torn apart

Hmmmm....I would have thought a search of the forums might have helped, or atleast posting or looking in the correct section.

I did a quick search for AVIC-D1 and came back with lots of results.
 
I had installed this unit in my F-150 and it wasn't too bad. In the 4 runner, you'll have to take apart half your dash and center console. I just installed the Alpine W200 this weekend. You will use the existing factory brackets and you may or may not need to modify them. You can throw away the sleeve. See this thread regarding the brackets:

I'll post some pictures and more info regarding the bracket issue tonight when I get home.

Did you get the Metra trim kit brackets? You'll need them to cover the gaps on the sides of the HU.

You'll need to tap into the vehicle speed sensor and parking brake lead. Parking brake lead is light green wire, pin 1 on 20 pin connector at bottom left of your fuse panel under driver side dash, near the door.

- speed sensor is purple/red at the ECM, 2nd plug from bottom, pin 8 . ECM Is behind the glovebox.

- Parking brake is lt. green at the Body ECU, middle plug, pin 2. BECU Is on the driver side under the dash.

- reverse is red/yellow at the left of fuses, 16 pin plug.


Have fun... I've done a dozen or so installs in my time and I have to say my 2005 4-runner was by far the biggest b!tch (of course, I have the JBL, so that complicated my situation with having to bypass). Enjoy the D1... it's a solid unit.

Thanks for the info. I have all the wiring worked out just did kno if i have to do a mad science project to mount the damn thing. i did get the 2 small brackets that cover up the sides of the unit. I am by passing the E-brake sensor so you dont have to have is set to use the NAV functions.

Which method are you going to use for the e-brake bypass, if you don't mind my asking? Mine is still plugged into the brake lead on my F-150 and I was thinking about doing a bypass.
 
I'm skeptical with that fix...

The problem is that the fixes for the N2 don't usually work for the D1. Just grounding the wire doesn't work like it does on the N2. The D1 not only uses the e-brake for it's safety switch, but also utilizes the speed sensor wire and the GPS. Once the vehicle is moving, it shuts out the functions based on the motion of the vehicle. This is derived from your speed sensor and GPS. Hypothetically, you could start driving and then push in your e-brake on the first click (your e-brake light will come on) and the functions will be released... about a second later, you'll get a screen that pops up saying that your is moving, etc. and it locks out the functions again (I tried this one). You have to plug in your speed sensor wire, otherwise your nav won't work.

my friend has the n2 and he grounded the ebrake wire and solderd those 2 pins together under the sticker and it works like a champ no problem doing anything and i ride in his truck all the time
