AVIC-D3 help needed

Ok guys, I need a little help from the experienced ones here.

What are the implications to the GPV/ NAV function if I leave the parking brake signal disconnected?

The dimmer switch does not dim out the lights in the guages, but dims the light in the center console area. What could be behind that issue? I remember that the metra harness had an Orange-Black wire which did not have a match with Pioneer and I basically connected it to ground. Is that a problem?

Also, even though I have navigation map and my progress is tracked correctly, most of the options in the nav menu are grayed out. Is that normal for the begining?

Thanks for yoru help

Well, I read the manual and figure that the parking wire cannot be left hanging. I think grounding it will fix the weird behavior.

However, still looking for illumunination dimmer issues... I read there was a post that there is a wrong connection in the metra harness.. is that true and has everyone seen the same problem ?

Thanks

Its been a while since I installed my D3 in my 2005 4Runner Limited with JBL, but as I remember it, I did ground the parking brake wire and that also allows you to watch DVDs, etc while driving. I had some dimmer issues as well and ended up connecting the illumination wire to a "known" dimmer wire. I used one of the green wires on the seat heater switch as the known wire, mainly because it was the easiest to find. I would think that you may be having those other dimmer issues if you grounded the illumination wire. If you haven't already, check out www.avic411.com for more advice.
