Avoiding future rear shock problems

I finally got the top nut off on the rear shocks on my 2001. I will get the bottoms tomorrow and replace the *&&^^* things. I used the pipe wrench method after soaking two nights with PB blaster. Passenger was easier since there was more room. Pulled rear tire off drivers side to get the pipe wrench on the body. Having said all this I don't want to go throught this again in 4 years. Any ideas of how to "protect" the nut and stud from the elements. I was thinking of anti sieze and then a small piece of rubber hose pushed on the stud.. Any thoughts?

I live by the beach in a foggy city, so rust is a big issue.

What I do w/ my nuts & bolts, including license plate screws, I use clear nail polish.

And whenever I take the wheels off for a rotation, i spray everything w/ spray on wax.

Reminder...when you ever disassemble/reassemble car parts that move a lot, put on some Tread Lock/Lock Tite/Tread Sealant.

Reminder, if you're using thread lock, make sure you're using the correct type. FYI: Red Lock Tite is permanent, Blue Lock Tite can be removed.
