Awning - Help Convince me that I need one

I'll say the opposite of most in here. I had an ARB 2500 with deluxe awning room for a year and a half and used it twice. I found setup to be a pain and ended up selling it when someone offered me a fair price for it.

What are they new? 480-500 delivered? Before any potential 10-15% off? I would say 300 max is a price I would pay for used with no tears etc.

I looked into that 2500+room setup last spring and decided, again, against it. I want a mid-range setup, smaller and lighter than our full-size family camping setup with a huge tent and a huge screen house.

What bothers me are:
1/ value, "overland" stuff always costs through the nose for what it really is;
2/ lack of portability vs a generic canopy on 4 legs; this is a big deal in my opinion;
3/ we already have a quality midsize tent and a cheapo but practical instant small tent
4/ it really can only do for 1-nighters. There are nearly zero scenarios where we go remote camping yet do not drive the vehicle for an entire day since we mostly drive trails and dirt roads.
5/ It is not really any easier of faster than a regular shade on 4 legs to deploy or retract from what I have seen.

So as the title suggests I really want an awning for my 4runner specifically the Batwing awning from Rhino Rack. My struggle is that the Practical side of me is really not sure I will utilize if enough to justify the price, but the Emotional side of me really wants one because they look cool and it seems like a good thing to have.

So for those of you that have awnings please let me know IF you actually use them and if so for what applications? Also if you have an opinion that I should NOT get one let me know your thoughts as to why.

its so funny i have been struggling with this situation. i am going to get one. i have decided to go with arb awning with the attachable walls. driver side set up. i havent purcahsed it yet becasue i am waiting on getting a gazelle tent. reason for getting the awning for me was that if its just me i can set it up reather quickly and use it to camp or get out of the wind. the gazelle tent is easy to set up and who ever is with me can use it for sleeping and/or getting out of the wind especially when we go to the shore. hope this helps.

Sure but that does by n9 means require an awning.

Any portable canopy will do while allowing that it be placed wherever and not by default right by the vehicle.

To me it comes down to whether you just like gear like a close friend of mine who does and has a 2500 or you are like me and dislike gear and just get whatever works with minimum hassle and cost.

For me the awning is just another thing to worry about on trails etc. A compact canopy is just thrown in the back and goodbye.

But thats me. There is nothing wrong with having an awning lol. Just a matter of preferences.

I sold the like new awning (used once) for $240, the used awning room which had a small tear in it for $120 (so $360 for both). I had a second new (unopened) awning room that I was going to use, but never did, and sold it for $180. So with awning that would've been $420.

Since we're talking about wants, I would want an awning on each side and a tarp for the back.

I have used a tarp and pole setup for ages (I also had two 10' pieces of conduit attached to the rack that swing forward when not in use), similar to that roadhouse thing a few people posted. Takes as long to setup as an awning certainly way cheaper, but man both would be deluxe.

I considered a 270 for quite a while. Lift-gates and batwings, meh. You get more shade out of straight awnings too. Straight awnings are way cheaper and setup easily as fast.

For an awning that is about a year old and has only been used a handful of times with an annex, would an offer of $325 be disrespectful?
