Axle Replacement - Calipers - recommendations please

So I just got back from the dealership, getting an oil change and had them check out a "shaky steering wheel every so often" -

After doing some searching on the forum, I figured it may be a caliper that is sticking or freezing up etc.

The dealership says that I need all new front brakes and calipers - as well as both front axles... that one of the boots is filled with water, and the other had a tear in it - and no grease.

They quoted their usual insane pricing for everything... $512 for aftermarket Caliper replacement for the fronts, and another $500 to replace the rotors and pads at the same time.

So a $1000 brake job -

Next they said I should def replace the axles... aftermarket ones would cost me $450 + $400 labor- so $850 for that job. Or if I went with OEM... about $1400 bucks.

YIKES.

I know a local certified mechanic that charges me $50 an hour -- but I need to buy the parts. He did my rear brakes last year.. I went with Centric Rotors.

I dont know where to start to look for calipers or the axle for parts though.

something like this OK?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...rd_wg=XbgwD&psc=1&refRID=WQSQ74J789Q9VFK536EJ

If anyone has any links for the right and left axle's... or brands... or recommendations where to buy... as well as the whole brake set up.. pads, rotors and calipers that would be awesome.

thanks in advance! - mace

I LITERALLY just did this entire job. All new front brake calipers, rotors, pads, drivers side brake line, rear rotors and pads. Completely tore down my CV axles and rebuilt the OEM.

If you dont need the truck right away order everything from Rock Auto and save some $$$ there will be a core charge on your front calipers.

Your local parts store can get you everything as well.

Front Calipers: $77/ea
Front Rotors: $60/ea.
Front Pads: $45 for OE semi metallic
CV Axles: $50-60/ea.

About $440 bucks or so in parts. and about 2hrs of labor.
