It was just stuck onto the headliner, but its not strong enough. It kept falling off on the trail.

Its now stuck to the bottom of the crawl control with the included velcro strips. I'll try to get a pic of it later. I like the location, but hate how its attached and how the cord is run. (probably incredibly unsafe) I want this (http://a.co/h4CJQ3g) But I can't justify $60 for that mount.

I was looking at that exact mount as well and really like the location. But also can't justify the amount of money for a piece of metal and ethernet cable.

Man, your patience is admirable. IMHO, based on your experience, Proline and their bumper is horrible. You are hardly the first to have a bad experience with them. The service you received is atrocious, and they did not deliver the product they sold you, nor at the price you agreed. Thanks for reporting your experience so we can all avoid like the plague. There are too many good vendors with quality products, who deliver what they promise. No need to buy from bad vendors.

If that gal hit your bumper and caused damage, that could have been your opportunity to recoup the cost to replace, and put those dollars towards Expedition One, Pelfreybilt, CBI or on of the other rear bumper vendors with a better reputation.

Props to a nice rig from a fellow SoCal'er. Great looking rig sorry to hear about the bumper ordeal AND the pismo ordeal...I've been out to Pismo a handful of times and it's iffy unless you're tucked away in the middle of a group with these damn tourists and their rentals ahah. As for Proline, they'll learn that customer service is a make it or break it especially among enthusiast groups.

Yeah, not sure a bent swingarm would deem a new bumper from insurance. I have the police report if anything ugly rears its face.

Yeah, unfortunately, its kind of hard for that price. OTD, its under $2k for a dual swingout. Like I said, for the most part, I like the bumper and I'm happy with the product sans the I-cant-tow-anything-safely (in my mind) and the fitment issues. I know Bold Overland on instagram tow adventure trailers with the bumper. I just don't know if I'd trust 4 out of 6 factory bolts for the hitch receiver.

Their customer service, on the other hand, is a completely different story...

Honestly, after this whole ordeal, I wish I ponied up and got the Pelfrey. If I ordered it the same time I ordered my bumper, I still wouldn't have it. So theres that. I think lead times on that thing are closer to 2 months. :wow2:

Around this time, I painted the fake beadlock bolts because I was bored one day.

What did you use to paint the fake beadlocks?

Found this while washing the truck this weekend. Do I need to be worried before a trip this weekend? Its the joint on my tire carrier.

not a metallurgist, but maybe chip the powder coating back around the weld and rust-through areas, may be just the powder coat cracking? hopefully just pc and clean/sand/prime/paint

that not good at all.
You could probably make your trip without incident, but over time that crack will get bigger until it fails.
That is text book defect in materials/workmanship.
I would ask the manufacturer to send you a new bumper under warranty.

Yep that is a whole new bumper right there! Common failure on bumpers not properly designed with the weight supported correctly.

Yes you could grind the powder coat off and weld it but it will most likely happen again eventually.

Thats why I liked the design of my C4 Fab bumper, they designed it better than most others out there so it supports the arm better to avoid this issue.

No question that will break off completely on the trail if you keep driving it

yikes...thats no bueno. maybe run the trip without the tire mounted on the swing out till you figure out what's going on.

Luckily the swingout is "removable." Hopefully they can just send me out a new plate. After looking at it again, it looks like the plate that bolts onto the bumper is whats cracking. Man, I'm fed up with this bumper.

Went on a 3 dayer with a few friends this past weekend. The tire carrier seems to be holding where it is despite all the rough roads/trails and trasharoo. But you know damn well that I had my anytime backup cam monitoring it throughout the weekend. I will be removing the spare tire swingout this week to get a thicker plate fabbed up or tacked while I wait for Proline to contact me back. (still havent heard back from them) I contacted them last week (3/36/19). We will see.

Got back into town around 8pm last night. First day, we drove to Mammoth Visitor Center to make sure with Forest Services that we can camp at Mono. They said dispersed is completely fine, just to watch for wind for the fire. It wasn't a problem. We headed to the eastern part of Mono Lake and found a little turnout just big enough to fit 4 rigs and 7 people. It dipped to 22F that night but we woke up to some spectacular views.

In the morning we spotted a herd of wild horses grazing closer to the lake and freshwater holes, which explained all the horse dung that scattered all over the trail and campsite, let alone the entire area. The trail to the spot had some pretty sandy spots but nothing too bad to worry about.

After that, we made our way down to Alabama Hills to recharge and warm up in the 40F lows. The 3rd day, we drove out near Reward Mine and found ourselves a good spot for target practice with 9mm and .223 tools. After that we headed up to Cerro Gordo where we quickly realized how beneficial a transmission cooler would have been. On the way up we had to rest a few times because tranny temps were shooting up to 300F. Yikes. We paid our visitor fee and spoke to the town's caretaker, Robert, for a few and learned a bit about what the mining town was mining for.

Overall this trip was really fun to catch up with friends and discover new places. Pics are all from iPhone because I have yet to dive into the sony stuff.

Quick update on the tire carrier situation.

I took the plate off with all intentions to take it to a fab shop to get it reinforced or even have them fab up the spindle mount on a thicker piece of metal, but I tagged proline on IG and they responded to send it back for a reinforced replacement. Tracking says it made it, so I guess its a waiting game for the replacement.

6 Bolts and its off. Truck looks naked now but I can now use my rear backup cam again. Was going to take off the Jerry can swingout too but I didnt put quick disconnects on the license plate lights and I just didnt want to deal with it.

Got the Dobinsons snorkel installed this weekend. One thing I'd say is don't 100% trust the template. Quadruple check before drilling the mounting holes. Use the intake hole as the baseline, then go from there. We had to widen up a couple mounting holes to get it right.

Overall, I love the way it looks and it will be super helpful on the next trip to Mojave Rd.

I also got back my tire carrier plate from Proline. Looks like they used the same plate, welded it, added a support, and sprayed it with bedliner. Hopefully this helps long term. In retrospect, they probably used the same mount plate to keep everything aligned. (mounting holes, spindle, and latch.
