Back door window motor replacement- any tips or info on how-to would be appreciated

My driver side rear door power window started moving slowly and then stopped working a few years ago, and life and a couple of surgeries got in the way of my fixing the problem. Fortunately it was closed when it stopped working the very last time.

One of the things I did try was to spray down the motor inside of the door with De-oxit spray to no avai

Somehow last week I accidentally hit that button and the window was working perfectly again, at regular speed, and all the way up and down. I thought I must’ve hit the jackpot and the spray must’ve soaked in and worked.

Unfortunately it froze again and stopped working with the window down a few inches, so I’ve ordered a replacement motor which will arrive on Monday.


Questions:
Being that it started working again and then stopped, is there anything I should check that may be causing this other than the motor?


If I have to replace the motor, being that it’s on the inside of the door and not easy to see what’s going on, how do I remove and reinstall the glass without breaking it and making sure eveything is lined up correctly?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! And if anyone on Long Island or in Connecticut or central to northern NJ would be willing to help I’ll be more than happy to supply the beer and sous vide us some steaks or make some killer gumbo or anything else as I’m a hobby chef and pretty darned good one at that!

It may not be the motor, but the “linkage”. Lubricate all the joints and tracks.

Deoxit is the wrong stuff to use; it is for electrical connectors, not mechanical joints. Better to use SeaFoam Deep creep, or just WD40.

It isn’t budging or making any noise like it would if it was trying to move. I tried de-oxit on the motor, connectors and switches in hopes that was the cause

If I spray WD40 in there in hopes of not having to replace it, could that negatively affect the motor?

Don’t use WD40 on the motor. Use it on the joints and linkage.
