Drivers side rear door power window stopped working-

Hi all,

As the title says my rear door power window on the drivers side stopped working altogether after a few bouts of getting stuck. Happily it’s stuck in the “up” position

Has anyone had to remove and repair or replace this window motor and regulator?
Is this an easy enough job to do, or should I pay a pro (which I really can’t afford right now)?

Speaking of which, is it possible to disassemble and repair the original part, or is that not a realistic option. Toyota OEM seems to be the only replacement part available and costs just under $400, nothing from Dorman etc…

It’s an easy job to do. Just look for a YouTube how to video. Most will say it take 1/2 hour. Or you can always take it to a dealer where they will charge you $400 to $700 to do it.

I would suggest before you go out and replace the window regulator assy and motor, first try to confirm it is not the window switch or wire harness that is causing the issue. To do this would require the removal of the interior door panel but if you were planning to replace the regulator and motor on your own, you would have to perform this step anyway. One way to confirm it is not the switch at the rear door is to temporarily swap the left door window switch with the switch on the passenger door and see if the window operates normally.

It's not too difficult to replace the window regulator including the motor that is attached to it. The tricky part is to be able to remove the window glass if you cannot operate the window. Normally, the steps involved is remove the door panel, peel back the plastic vapor barrier, lower the window about half way to get access to the bolts that attach the glass to the regulator, unbolt the glass and pull it upward to remove it completely from the door, then remove the bolts that attach the regulator to the door. It gets a little tricky if you are not able to roll down the window to get access to the glass bolts. In this case a second pair of hands would be helpful.

Window regulator replacement

What year is your truck? Perhaps your search for aftermarket is too narrow.
I have had both rear window regulators fail on my 2004 Honda pilot in the past year. I found a DIY on line video for my exact year and window side. Took about 45 min for first one. I used lots of blue painters tape to hold window in various positions to access screws in the metal window frame. Lots of squatting, sitting, kneeling.
I also suggest you give it a try. Best if done in a garage.

There is a thread by mbumpus11 from Aug 2017 titled "drivers side door lock actuartor repair - step by step with pics." In it, he describes how to remove the door panels and repair the motor or replace it. He provides links to parts that are much more reasonable that OEM cost. You should be able to search for it with no problem. I thought it was in the stickys, but I don't see it now.

Oops - I mis-read your post as the lock actuator and not the window. There is a thread in the stickys about door panel removal - that will get you access to the motor where you can troubleshoot further.
