Back Spacing

Okay I know everyone hates wheel and tire questions, and I have hunted around but I just can't find my answer, so bear with me. I got these 16x7 wheels off of a 4th Gen, that nobody seems to even knew existed. As near as me and Singtoe can tell they are around 5.5" backspacing. I can't justify ordering new tires and finding out they will rub on the UCA. I plan on getting 265/75/16. Will I need wheel spacers? Does anyone have any info on these wheels? Exact backspacing?

I just sold a set of 4th gen wheels and think they were backspaced around 5.25 or could have been 5.5 so yeah you will probably need some spacers. The 4th gen wheels I had were a different design but probably the same BS. Hope that helps.

You can put a straight edge on the backside of the wheel and measure from the mounting surface to the straight edge to get the BS.
 
Me and Singtoe both did the measurement and it ended up being 5.25. My dads 4th Gen looked like it was about 5.5" backspacing and those wheels barely fit, but they used completely different lugnuts, I just don't know what to do!

they used the acorn style lugnuts correct?

I'm thinking 5.25 is probably right. What do you mean they barely fit? The tires were too tall or the wheels stuck out too far?

My dads had the ones with the washer, I use the acorn ones now, and so do the 16" wheels. At full flex the tire and UCA has about 1/4" between them. He has the 31" tires, if I go with 265/75 It will be a bit bigger, and I think contact would happen a lot sooner.
 
I say just do it. I'm sure it will clear it. If it doesn't, we can shave your upper control arms to make them fit, or you can buy some cheap 5mm spacers and some extended lug nuts and be on your way.

What tires are in the background of your first picture?

You're talking about your dads 4runner now or you already put them on yours?

You're gona need a spacer. People that run 285s on stock 3rd gen wheels sometimes get the rub on the upper control arms and they are less than an inch wider than your 265s but you're moving your wheel in almost 3/4" so I'd say you need atleast a 1/4" spacer. With that said I wouldn't get just a 1/4" spacer. I'd atleast get a 1" spacer that bolts on your wheel studs.
 
I guess you are right Singtoe! Those were my 225/75/15 Firestone A/T's that I recently sold

Guess there's more than one way to skin a cat. I have some 1/4" spacers I'll give you if you pay shipping.

I was talking about my fathers 4runner with the 1/4" space. Sounds like I will just order the tires and see, thanks for the help man!
