BACK to 4RUNNER.. again, lift opinion?

Hello all, please no spam about searching the forum... I have had (2)4Runners, and various lifts from spacers to ICON, OME: Titans, Tundras, Tacoma, Ridgeline, ZR2, RAM...

I just traded in my RAM diesel back to a 2021 4Runner, and looking for opinions.

- Goal: 3" lift front, 2" rear ( maybe a .5" rear-spacer to keep the rake ( 2000$-ish), no major Armor for now..

- OME - liked it on my Tundra, missed adjustability
- ICON stage 1, great on my last 5th gen

- Never tired ELKA, Toytec-Bilstein, Toytec-Boss, FOX?
- Kings are little over budget

I'm thinking I will just go with ICONs again, but its been about 8 years since I poked on here all the time, so I'm open to suggestions?

Avoid Toytec Aluma series and Elka. They are the same Canadian made kits and sourcing metric re-build parts or finding someone to work on them is a PITA. The lower bushings will start squeaking every 20-30k miles so will need bushings re-built and are not covered under warranty. I went through one warranty claim and two rebuilds in 4 years.

I cant speak on Ikons, Fox and Kings but they seem to be the best for heavy offroad abuse and easy re-builds. A lot of people love the dobinsons kits and speak highly of their staff who can help you build a kit for your needs.

Bilstein 5100s are tried and tested non-rebuildable entry level kit with some adjustability. Great value imo.

If I could do it all again I would test the OME MT64s. Not a lot of reviews Ive seen yet but they are the new mid-tier kit from ARB and have decent looking adjustability up front (snap rings). The top teir BP-51s are the best performance shocks I have owned but are on the expensive end. I think the MT-64s fill the mid-tier void nicely. Fairly priced for ARB quality too.

Bilstein 5100 and Eibach rear springs is pretty cheap and hard to beat honestly.
I personally have Tacoma TRD Offroad front shocks with a 1" spacer in the rear on my 4th Gen and an aluminum spacer on front with eibach rear springs on my 5th gen. I am like 2.55" up front, and .875" rear over stock and i love the way my 5th gen looks with wide tires tucked under it on stock Limited wheels.

There are tons of folks looking for TRD Pro take-offs and aftermarket coil-overs. It depends on how you plan to use it, mall crawlers like mine, i would run 5100s maxed out and the Eibach 2" spring in the rear for what you are looking to get. I can tell you from experience, and this is why i normally stop around 2.5" up front, is that once you go past 2.5" up front you cant keep the camber in factory specs on the front end alignment. So if you plan to go 3" up front you might also want to look into upper A-arms that correct the alignment so you can get the caster back in adjustment. Tons of folks build upper A-arms you can go cheap or go baller just depends on your budget. I saw some of the cheaper $500 sets that had sealed ball joints and the plates welded at a different angle from stock to reduce the angle on the upper ball joints. Honestly i would likely end up with a set like that over something uber expensive like Camburgs or others. Its your call, go as far or as expensive as you want.

I have Bilsteins on my SR5 with stock springs and love them. They're a night and day difference in driveability with no nose dive or roll anymore. I'm at 1.75" front and 1.5" rear but if I was going to go to more height, I'd probably go with OME systems.

I had the Bilstein 6112/5160 on my last 4Runner. They were a fairly decent setup for the easy/midlevel trails I take. However, Bilstein wouldn't replace under their "life time" warranty as they said that was "normal wear n tear."

I'm looking at the Eibach Stage 2R setup for my new 4Runner as they have had good reviews, work for the trails I ride, and have some adjustability to them.

I have Radflo 2.5 fully adjustable with resi’s. Smooth on and off road. High quality and fully rebuildable. I keep my vehicles for a long time, so I wanted a quality performance suspension system.

then i'd stick with someone like dobinsons, bilstein, or eibach. eibach has some nice looking 2.0 coilover units.

I installed Bilstein 6112/5160 like so many others. Icon 2” rear springs. At the time, it was what was available and in my budget. Couldn’t be happier. Lots of miles in weirdo situations in Central Baja made me a believer in the Bilsteins. Maybe I just had good luck. My friend has Icon gear and really pushes it- also had great results, no problems. Take your pick, I suppose.
