Back up lights...

I would definitely flash them with my lights but I wouldn't leave them on. I've noticed a lot more people with high beams on. It seems people are less inclined to signal others probably because they think it may just be HIDs. I flipped the bird to a motorcycle with his high beams on behind me. It worked too, he switched them off :cheers:

It's one of the main reasons why I am considering a rear fog light mod. :rocker:
The other would be to use when I need to back up when I'm night wheel'n so I can see better. I did some night wheel'n in June during a camping trip and had to back down a trail that dead ended. The trail was so narrow I couldn't turn around so I had to go in reverse for about a 1/4 of a mile. If my friend wasn't spotting me the whole way down, it would have been ugly....
I must say though, the brake lights on the 4th gens with the LED's are among the brightest factory brake lights I have seen on the road.

ha. um was that the time i was there? that was hilarious. and i agree the lights on the back are very bright which is good
ive considered doing something like that too, not so much for tailgaters but since my windows are dark it would be nice to have some extra light when backing up.

Here are some picks. Camera phone @ night... sorry. Looks brighter in person. The last pic is a worst case scenario (2 mill candle power). If someone is riding my bumper and I have a passanger that can reach into the back... lord help you!

my old ram ahd a set of Piaa solitare 100s mounted below the bumper for people that liked to come up wiht their off road lights PLUS their high beams on. seem a good number of people turn their highs and aux lights off REAL quick. i have the lights still but cant seem to find them. i really need something for my 4runner.

I bought "Platinum Burners Series" lights from Walmart for $15, they are the very small oval/square looking ones, 55W. It took like 30 min to install them. Looking forward to testing them out tonight. They looked very yellow in the daytime (compared to my silverstars) but we'll see what they look at night. The box says "bright white illumination" so they might look different at night. For $15 I think it was worth it.

What kind of lights do you guys have?
I just came back tonight testing them out around in the parking lot and they don't seem very bright.
1) I have limo tint on the back window and with the window up I can barely even tell if the lights are on (even if I'm like 5 ft away from a car or house)
2) When getting out of the car and looking directly at them they don't seem that bright. Granted I got the cheapest and smallest lights they had. I may need to return them and get bigger ones.
3) If I roll the back window down and put the 4runner in reverse and the stock back up lights come on they are bright enough that I don't need the aftermarket ones.

NO, if he crashed, geuss who could be liable ? Id just move over, let them pass, and go on with my life.
This reminds me of a story here in Denver, last year a guy did a "brake check" on someone, that person swerved into on coming traffic and two people died, geuss whos sitting in prison ?

its when your riding someones bumper, and they "tap" the brakes. How he got caught, it was done during the day, and other people driving seen it, called CSP and reported it.
If you cause someone to wreck/crash, and as you said "drive away" thats leaving the scene, another charge.

yeppers, people do it all the time, every day, in every city and town. but the point being, if someone wreckes from your actions, YOUR at fault.
In the case in Denver, two people DIED, and another is in prison for the rest of his life, when he could have simply pulled over, letting the other pass. aint worth it IMHO.

There's a big difference from break checking and slamming hard on your breaks IMO. I've never seen someone swerve out of a lane, or even begin to lose control from being break checked (I'm not a big fan of break checking anyway). What I consider break cheaking is just a light taping. Enough to see my brake lights but not enough to significantly slow the vehicle.
If this person got to the point of crossing over a lane or losing control I'm assuming the vehicle in front of them laid on the breaks pretty hard. In whcih case they deserve their new 9'x9' home.
