back up sensor

I just purchased on 07 Limited and was surprised to learn that backup sensors were not available. I checked the net and found an alternative. I ordered a Dolphin hitch mounted ultrasonic wireless sensor. The device plugs into the 2" receiver and the 7 pin contector. It only operates in reverse. There is a small speaker/light device about the size of a lighter that goes in a 12 plug. The closer you get to an object the faster the sensor beeps and the light turns from green to yellow and then red. Since the genious engineers at Toyota only provided one power plug up front, I plugged the sensor into the rear power plug and can easily hear it. So far this is a good way to overcome a safety problem and it is only about $170. You can also transfer it between vehicles. I plan to also use it on my RV during trips. If you have kids or dogs -- consider getting one.

I dont know why your dealer would tell you that. It seems like all of the 2007's here no matter what package have them. Anyway glad to see you found a solution.

do you happen to have the link to the website to the company you got it from, do you have any pics? is there a way to lock it so that it cant be stolen?

backup sensor

As I remember the brand was dolphin and if you google dolphin back up you should find dealers. It looks fine and appears to be a small step plugged into the hitch. You can actually use it as a step. It is black and blends in well. I put the wireless sensor in the rear plug so as to keep the console plug available. You can't see the lights, but all you really need is the sound. It comes with a keyed hitch lock so theft is not a problem. Overall I am happy with it.
