Backlight for te LCD heater controls is burnt out...

Anyone change it before? I have the auto climate control and it is a pain in the night time not being able to see that little screen - anyone do it before?

I tried searching the archives but no luck yet.

I have that same problem in my 2002 4Runner.. the left side of the LED Climate Control is out.. I think we may just have to remove it and replace the bulbs in the back. but im not exactly sure.
 
I'm new to the forums but thought I would chime in on this. If you do a search there are several threads about fixing this problem. The bulbs can be purchased at your local dealer for $7 to $8 bucks. I went to Radio Shack and found some small bulbs with long wire leads and replaced the factory bulbs with these. This has been about three weeks ago and they are still going strong.

You should have put up some archived links! :) What keywords did you use?
 
Believe it or not punching your dash "lightly" will sometimes shake things up enough to get a good connection again and they will light up. The same thing happened to my Honda Ody. I have to punch mine every week....

You can get some Neo-wedge LED's from http://autolumination.com/74.htm for $2.99 a piece. You will need to measure because there are three different sizes

Type A 8mm= 5/16"
Type B 10mm= 3/8"
Type C 12mm= 15/32"

On my 2002, it uses three Type B's and two Type A's.
 
Hrmm, looks like I don't need all 4. My button letters and the lights in the buttons all light up.

It's just the lcd panel itself.

I am not sure if any of you are still having issues with the backlighting on your heat controls or LCD display but I watched this 8 minute Video and had the problem fixed in my 05' Runner in about 15 minutes. I would also like too Note that I picked up the 3 bulbs I needed yesterday April 17, 2014 for $10.70 in Salt Lake City, UT. I am also providing the link for the video I mentioned at the beginning.

I got the neowedge style led's - NEO 4-BHP from LED Lights, Bulbs & LED Lighting Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS. These are the high power, blue ones, "B" -blue "HP"- hi power. There are other colors. Really lights up the LCD nicely. They are polarized so when you put them all in and they're not lit just remove them and turn 180 degrees. Just don't put everything back to together completely until all the LED's are lit. I would get the NEO 3 BHP for the buttons to match. Taking the digital climate control out only takes about 5-10 minutes. Then you'll wannna do your ECT and rear window and defrost then your gauge cluster......

Hey JRZEE2000TR4LTD! thanks for this. Could you find your email invoice and share which part numbers you ordered? That would save me (and future readers) from having to open it up, measure them, put it back together, then wait for them to arrive. Thank you so much in advance.

All the colors and sizes are there. Just check what you want. The switches use the 3mm and the LCD backlight uses 4mm. That is the hole size. The base sizes are 8mm and 10mm respectively.

Yep, the LEDs are very bright and light up the buttons easily. The HVAC controls are not "tall" like one of the ones in the ECT - rear window- rear defrost row.
