My backlight is out on my stock radio/cassette/single CD player. Can it be changed? I have the faceplate off the circuit board but not clear how to proceed - can the light in the LCD be replaced or do you have to replace the LCD?

thx,

Mine is out too. Went out about two months ago. I think I saw a post where someone replaced the bulb for the LCD readout, but I can't find it now. I figure one day, I'll get brave enough and pull mine out and see what I can do with it.

Thanks for the input but I decided that this old head unit was really not worth any more effort. That's probably what everybody wanted to say. I just bought the Alpine CDE-143BT from Crutchfield which should be delivered by Christmas Eve. Happy Holidays!

An update - have the new head unit on order and am happy enough about that but when I re-installed the face plate on the OEM head unit, the display now lights up. I suspect that I had a marginal ground in the plugs between the head unit and the faceplate and disconneting/re-connecting improved the contact...not all that surpising with a 14 year old truck. Give it a try Slim....
