I would really like to install a backup camera and my plan is to replace the rear view mirror with one that has a monitor inside the mirror. Searching amazon i saw these. Wondering if anybody had any experience with them? Or should I just get a universal camera

I think within this price range they are all the same and provide rather mediocre image; having said that, the cheap flimsy-looking camera that came with my mirror has somehow been flawless for nearly 3 years.

Just make sure you do wired and not wireless. I've heard terrible things.

I have had the early version of the AutoVox V5PRO (found on Amazon) now for 4 years and it has been one of the best mods I made to my 4Runner. It completely replaces your rear view mirror with a screen of what is behind you and also goes into back up camera mode when you put the car in reverse. It is a bit involved of an install but if you can identify a proper path to route the wires it works out perfectly.
