backup camera display problem

so had my runner for a year and a half no probs so far, very satisfied.Have the backup camera display built into the rearview mirror and when i went to backup today the display was pure blue, tried restarting it and still blue , so called up dealer to schedule apntmnt for this sunday then went out to start truck and display was normal again. am still planning on going in to have them check it out anyway but just curious if anyone has any ideas what it might be? From what i read it could either be bad camera or loose wire, am inclined to think loose wire since it started working again right after i called the dealership, am concerned if its backup camera going bad in year and a half isnt very long

I have recently noticed that mine (built into the radio/nav display) will show a blank screen or just stay with the audio screen when in reverse.

I have only noticed this once or twice and to be honest, I don't really look at the back up screen all that often. I am trying to get in the habit of looking at it when backing out of a parking place or driveway, but after nearly 40 years of driving with out such things new habits are hard to get going.

Most of the time when I do look at it, it does work properly and like I say only blanked out twice that I know of.

I am sure this would never act up on demand at a dealer service department. So no big deal a far as I am concerned. Unless it fails completely, I am not going to do anything about it

However it would be interesting to see if next time it does this if the back up lights are on. Maybe it is the switch on the shifter not fully engaging every once in a while.

The blue screen means loss of video; but the fact you have the display area (even though it's blue) means the display function is working. This is probably enabled by going into reverse. So, I'd look for a loose video connection. ou could try tapping around the mirror and back by the camera to see if you can make the video come and go.

yeah after i went inside for a bit then came back out it worked after i already scheduled for it to be fixed at dealer, am guessing it is a loose wire due to it coming and going, will bring it in anyway and have them check the wires there

I have the backup camera on the nav screen. I have had it malfunction twice in about one year of ownership so far. My issue is that the camera stays on when I take it out of Reverse. One time, it only lasted about 5 seconds. Another time, it stayed on while I was driving. I only had about a mile and a half to drive though. When I pulled into my driveway, I put it back in Reverse, then into drive and the camera went off.

As mentioned before, I am sure I can not make it replicate this issue for the dealer so I don't see any point in having them look at it. I would have it documented, however, just to show it in your warranty records in case it comepletly fails later.

yeah gonna have them take a look at it just for records, not to concerned with something going wrong during warranty or if its just a one time fluke but if the backup cameras only have couple year life then i will be adding ext warranty before factory is up as ive read these things can run 700$+ for replacement
