Backup Camera Intermittent Failure

So I've tried searching the forum relentlessly. I've seen lots of complaints of dirty camera lenses and a few issues with connectivity problems, but nothing really matching my circumstances.

I've got the rear view display in the mirror (no navi). It works great 90% of the time. It even works during a rainstorm a lot of the time, but the day after a major storm, it's usually giving me a blue screen. So I'm pretty sure either it's a major coincidence, or this is a moisture problem.

It will happen if the 4R has been parked all through the storm, and then I drive it the following day once it's pretty dry outside. So I feel like it's an issue of water draining from above into an electrical connection somewhere.

Before I pull out wiring diagrams and start trying to trace down problem spots, I figured I would ask and see if anyone had encountered an identical problem before or if anybody has an idea on some potential most likely areas to check first. This truck is pretty new to me, so I'm not that familiar with it yet.

TIA

I've had this problem also. When it occurs for me it's usually during the first vehicle start after the tailgate has been opened and closed. I haven't noticed that weather has played a part in it. It doesn't bother me anymore since the camera is blocked by my tire swing out.

It's funny you mention that, because it's been raining all week, and the camera was acting up yesterday. I took a trip to THD and had to access the rear door. After shutting it back, I started up the 4R and the camera was working again.

So now I'm wondering if it's a loose connection inside the door.

My 4runner reverse camera will stop working at times, usually when the tailgate is open/closed. Three times jn the last year it has failed. By accident I found that if I open the camera screen up to adjust contrast/brightness and if I adjust one of them the camera works as normal. I think there is a bad connection in the camera area but have not opened it up. This is a quick fix for me. Hope it will work for others.
