Backup Camera recommendation?

Hey all,

Just wondering if you guys can recommend a reliable and good backup camera? The one that the previous owner installed on mine crapped out, as it was some cheap Amazon one, and I'm really hoping to not have to replace this thing every year. Thankfully the cables have all been run (albeit sort of poorly) so it shouldn't be that hard to swap these out.

I'm just trying to get a recommendation instead of sifting through all the fake reviewed ones on Amazon.

I bought a cheap one on Amazon, the Auto-Vox Cam 6. Less than $30 and has performed flawlessly. Excellent imaging, even in low light.

Are you looking for just the camera or the whole set up

For the whole set up look at 03-15 Toyota 4Runner Backup Camera, Aftermarket Mirror
its expensive, but allegedly these are the parts used in 4runners with back up camera systems notably the late 4th gens and early 5th gens with back up cameras

For more economical look at the boss back up camera system on amazon.

I ended up going with the Toguard Ce35- cheap back up camera on amazon (actually got it used on ebay) because im cheap and may consider the option of using a dashcam in the future

If you just want the camera
- consider Lovelive CCD Color Car Aftermarket Camera- this fits in your Lic plate light mount and is reportedly of good quality

I'm curious if the OEM Toyota backup cam has the same connectors as the aftermarket units. I'd think not but wanted to check. The OEM unit in my GF's '08 is rather nice so I was wondering.

I hear you. What I can tell you is that I'm about ten months in using mine and it has been excellent. The image on my Pioneer is far better than the one on the Ford Super Duty factory camera on my work truck.

For less than thirty bucks, if it craters, I'd just order another one.

So from what I've gathered, the cheap ones are basically "it" and we just count on them being cheap if we need to replace them? I don't want to have to replace these silly things every year and would rather just pay $50-100 for something that will last a normal life time.

I installed a Pioneer ND-BC8 from Crutchfield when I installed a new head unit. It has performed well for the last couple of years.

This is what I ended up with for a camera. I thought about putting it on the dash but prefer the screen out of the way. I removed the door to the useless bottom storage cubby which made for some extra space. I think I may add a couple USB ports to the right of the screen . I'll hide the wire better at some point.

i did something similar for my dad, after 2 weeks, i decided to just put a double din pioneer, time to upgrade him, i would of use this for my truck, but i cant give up my radio.

Same here. I've had it for 6 months and it is amazing. I wired mine into a constant power source instead of running off the reverse lights. My Pioneer radio allows me to run it in reverse or whenever I want too.

Nakita Camera

I replaced my rear view camera with one I bought from Amazon for $40. The picture and clarity is good although occasionally, the color is off as you can see from the pic, I don't have a pinkish driveway. The front camera is also a Nakita camera. It is listed as the 'upgrade version'. It has a wider view, but the white balance is off. I just installed the front camera so I'm still deciding if I want to keep it. I like the viewing angle of the rear camera better.

I'm looking for a power source for the camera that's not constant on, but ignition on. Is there a wire in the tailgate that I can tap into?

I have it currently hooked up to the reverse lights, but my radio has the option to view the camera anytime. It would be nice to keep an eye on the hitch while towing.

what camera do you have? was there a power wire with the rca? , if there is a power wire with the rca, tap it to the accessory so it turns on when key is in acc. if you need to run a wire back to the tailgate, you can use the rear 12volt outlet for the power.

what camera do you have? was there a power wire with the rca? , if there is a power wire with the rca, tap it to the accessory so it turns on when key is in acc. if you need to run a wire back to the tailgate, you can use the rear 12volt outlet for the power.

What I'm asking, is there a wire, in the tailgate, that is an ACC wire?

I did the mod so my 12v outlets are always powered, so I can't tap into that.
