Trying to fish a wire up the tailgate post pillar

Has anyone actually ever fished a wire up the rear drivers side taigate pillar in a 2010 4Runner? I am installing a new rear view camera in said vehicle and I am stuck at that point. The unit is bluetooth, so I only have to run a wire between the camera and the reverse tailight (rather than the whole length of the vehicle). I have successfully fished the wire up through the tailgate into the rear headliner and I thought running the wire down the pillar to the back-up tail light would be the easy part, but it is not. I am unable to coax a fishing wire (or a coat hanger, or anything) to go up (or down) that pillar. There seems to be a blockage at close to the top of the pillar. I don't have an inspection camera to get in and see what is going on.

Use a really long zip tie (Home Depot HVAC section) and cut the head off. drill a small hole on one end and insert the wire there. With the other spray on a little wd-40 and you can fish it through the grommet. Great for running wires across headliners too.

So you are saying the right fishing wire (I can try a greased up 'really-long zip tie") will go up (or down) the drivers side rear pillar? I am just not sure why you mention 'the grommet", the only grommet I can see is the obvious long grommet between the top of the tailgate and the body above the headliner. and I have already got past that. It is the pillar that is my problem, but maybe there is some unseen grommet there I have to fish through? Thanks again.

Sorry to open this back up, but does anyone know which of the wires on the rear camera harness/clip are for which action?

IE: red wire is power, black is ground, yellow is trigger, blue is blah blah.... whatever.

I am installing a new camera which doesn't have the harness, so just need to know which wires on the OEM harness are which.

Anyone know if the 4th gen (2006) wiring harness should have a plug for a backup cam ? I'm getting ready to upgrade to a yaris stereo and plan on adding an oem cam I picked up.
