Backup Camera?

Forgot to finish my thought...SR5 outfitted with the camera seem difficult to find...is it worth it? Might try to install an aftermarket nav and would want to hook it up if it's worth a longer search.

Do you have an SR5 already? I have one with just backup sensors, no camera, and honestly, I make full use of those every time I'm parallel parking and haven't had any issues.
It's good software, the beeping becomes more intense in a very predictable way so you know how much room you have exactly.

I have a SR5 with both sensors and the backup camera. It's helpful and makes parallel parking in tight spots easier to view the distance of the vehicle behind you. Honestly, sometimes I don't even look at it when parking but it's helpful for my father and the ladies in the house.

+1 for my SR5. At first I thought it might be gimmicky, but it works very well, and I now rely on it.
Mine's in the RV mirror, it would rock in a nav system.
Good aftermarket option
I bought a Pyle plcm103 which is a camera and rearview mirror setup for $86.00 off amazon. It clips over your rear mirror and you have a 10" wide screen while backing up. Very cool and inexpensive. You have to live with a mirror with a little tint but it's well worth it.

I didn't think It was worth it but my TE came with it. "Now it is the best tool to hook up a trailer". No more getting in/getting out!!!!

Apparently it is difficult to find the backup camera on a Mag Grey SR5. I have a grey SR5 and had the camera installed after purchase instead of waiting for a special order grey. My dealer couldn't locate a grey one with the camera.
I agree that the sensors are great. The camera isn't really necessary, but it's pretty cool!

I have one on my tacoma and hofs05 has one on her mag grey sr5. I find it extremely useful in parking lots and even more when hitching up. Matter of fact, I've had to hitch up my dads chevy with him giving me directions and all I could think about is how much easier it is to do it by myself with my tacoma. Worth every penny.
Ditto, would love to know how in depth the installation for this aftermarket camera is. The idea of running video line from the license plate to the RV mirror sounds daunting. If it were to already be in place, then it sounds like a fun install. Has anyone else out there installed an aftermarket camera? Please enlighten us. Thanks.

I installed one on my Tacoma. Very easy. I had double din HU with a video in. running a video cable and power wire from the HU to the rear is very easy. The hardest part is picking a mounting location, and mounting the camera.
I was hoping th wiring was there but it was not. Install took me about an hour. The rear view 10.2" monitor fits over your entire mirror. I ran the cable up under the headliner and then went down the left front pillar. I ran the power wire direct to my fusebox to te reverse power on the hitch wiring. I then ran the cable under the foot boards toward the rear and then used a coathanger to get it through the rear panel to the taillight. I then tapped the camera power to the reverse light. Then I ran the wire down the molding to the center where the lock is and used a tin snips to notch the metal so the molding would sit nice. Then i made two brackets which attached to the trailer hitch that added two holes about 2" further apart and then attached the camera to that. Now I use the camera with the sensors and it's awesome.

Aftermarket Camera Location?
I installed a Kenwood DNX8120 a few years ago, and have been sitting on a Kenwood CCD-2000 rear view camera to go with it.
I feel loopy enough to finally take on this job (maybe its the heat), but remain unsure about where to put this thing. I have seen posts about installing the camera under the licence plate garnish, and I think factory installs come with the camera at the top of the rear door near the brake light. Certainly, top of door would be easier, but I am not sure if the view is sufficient, given the bulge in the mid section of the door.
Vehicle is a 2006 T4R SR5
Any ideas or thought would be appreciated!
BTW, I have not used the sensors here, but in the vehicles in Japan they are awesome. I once looked for aftermarket sensors to install on my T4R, but gave up.

Thanx..my T4R manual shows it up top. Is it a decent view?
