Backup Sensor ... I'm an idiot!

I have a TE without sensors but my Tundra Crew Max has them part of a package. How did my poor old dead grandfather ever park those behemoths from the sixties without them? He must be laughing his ass off when this current generation of "drivers" needing all these electronics gizmos to survive and "drive".

Being a motorcycle and car road racer I rank very few people on public roads as drivers but merely people who can point and aim their vehicles down the street.

I live in SoCal in a place called Balboa Island where parking is very tight. Took my little boys for walk this morning this morning and to collect my mail. Some woman was trying to parallel park her Range Rover and was doing nothing more than backing up and going forward in the same spot. As my boys ate their ice cream we sat watched and laughed at her. She looked at me and I jokingly said I would park her car for five bucks. She got out of the RR and I jumped in and parked it. And she handed me the five when I got out. Told my boys that this is what passes for drivers nowadays.

But I made five bucks :biggrin2:

LOL so i've had my truck for like 2 months, and i swear that is the first time i have seen that button. LOL it's so obvious that it's there and so obvious what it does. i'm an idiot, and i dont know how i missed that one!

Thanks for all of your replies! I do look out the back when backing up but I'm still having a hard time going from a 2-door Explorer to the 4Runner. I love my 4Runner but it's much harder to gauge than my Ford was. I love the backup camera as a visual check but the depth perception is not such that I can back into a space an not hit something using it alone. I'll probably mention the sensor issue in the survey and not slam the dealer too much :banana:
 
Hi - found this thread from a search.

Do TE's in general or TE's w/ nav not come with sensors? I have entune with the reverse camera, but from what I can tell no back up sensors.

Unfortunately, the TE's do not come with sensors. You have to rely on the backup camera integrated into the mirror (non-Nav models) or GPS screen (Nav models).

(This is speculation) I think the sensors are only part of a rare package now. My 2012 Limited with Entune has the backup camera but no sensors. I didn't see the sensors on the other Limited nor the SR5 that was on the lot. Perhaps they are going away from the sensors all together?
 
According to Toyota.com "Rear parking assist sonar" is a standard feature only on SR5. Stupid that it's not standard on all models.

I know others have said they still look over their shoulder, but I have grown to love the backup camera. Now when I back up in my wife's car, I look at the radio expecting it to change into a screen.

I use the backup camera on the mirror in combination with the backup sensors and its awesome! I do admit though, when I first bought the truck I didn't know what that button did and rammed into a parking pole, OOPS lol.

I'm in nova too. May I ask which dealer?

I'm betting ourisman. I've never had a good experience at either location.
 
The parking sonar was standard on my 2015 4Runner.

I found it odd that if the parking sonar was left on when the engine was turned off, that there was a beep when the car was restarted. I thought there was some sort of issue but it just turned out to be the parking sonar letting me know it was operational.
 
I couldnt believe my ORP didnt have a sensor (Even though I have a camera). So I installed my own. It wasnt to hard and it was CHEAP. $12 shipped and it had the sensors and a Drill bit. 30 minute install.
